Hmmmm....it could possibly be from the naso-gastric tube they put in for
surgery. Your throat could have gotten a little more irritated than normal
and is taking longer to heal than usual. I would try drinking a little
extra water than normal and call your doctor if it doesn't clear up this
week. You could have the beginnings of an infection, so be careful! Good
luck!

It could remotely be from the endotracheal tube (breathing tube) in your
trachea for surgery, but it's doubtful. You may have a mild case of
laryngitis. You should probably contact your doctor.

I'm so glad I was not the only one! I am 2 days away from being 6 weeks
out, and my voice is still not back to normal. It was very soft and raspy,
gradually getting better. I still cannot shout worth a darn - my voice
just goes up when I try. And, yes, with 2 dogs and a 3 year old that like
to wander around our nearby park, I do shout alot!! I actually have to take
my husband with me - just for the volume of voice..lol There's no pain,
never has been, so the doc thinks my vocal chords might have got nicked and
will just take time to heal.

I had this both times I was put under (for surgery and a D&C). My Dr's
both told me that it was from the tubes they put down your throat while you
are asleep. When I woke from the D&C, my throat was so scratched and
swollen from the breathing tube that I couldn't catch my breath, and I had
a raspy voice for about 1 or 2 weeks after that. If it continues or you
feel sick, call your Dr!

I have had anesthesia 4 or 5 times in the past 10 years with general
anesthesia. I haver had a complete range of discomfort from severe
laryngitis to nothing at all. It is related to the technique of the
anesthesiologist who is intubating you. Usually, there are no long term
effects of the sore throat. This just reminds me that I WAS tubed for my
WLS. Gee, this guy was good. I had no aftereffect at all this time
around. Yea!!!

I'm 3 months out and am still having this problem. I have no power to my
voice when I shout or sing. I spoke to my surgeon at my 3 mo. check up
this week and he didn't know what was causing it, because it's too long
after surgery to be from the tube. I personally think hormones, but then
I'm no doctor! <G> Glad to hear I'm not the only one, though.
;-> Hopefully it will get better over time.
