Question:
Nutritionist/weight loss before approval

Hi, Lori. I'm not sure what your ins co is looking for here. It could be
one of those "little games" they like to play in order to deny a
covered service. However, you know you must follow their guidelines. I
would certainly try to pin them down on how long the diet must be
(indeterminate is too vague a term). If I were you, I'd go ahead and meet
with the nutritionist, let him/her give you a diet plan to follow, and then
follow-up on meetings when required. What you put into the diet is up to
you, really. Do you think you could possibly lose all the weight you
wanted by following any diet? There are a small number who do. However,
if you're like most of us, you realize from past diet attempts that they
aren't going to work long-term. Therefore, it might be best to "go
through the motions" of what your ins co requires. There is no way
they could prove you did or didn't follow the diet plan. Personally, I
don't think I'd put my "all" into this. I'd just do the bare
minimum required for the insurance, and not attempt to lose weight at this
time. I think you may be right in thinking that if you do lose weight,
they will deny you because you are able to do it!! Also, try to find
others who have the same insurance as you do, and see what happened in
their cases. This may help you deciding your course of action. Good luck
to you!
