Question:
Has anyone post-op noticed more breast tenderness?
I had my rny on 7/08/02. I have lost over 150lbs, and I feel great. For the first time in my life my periods are regular. I have had a regular period every month for the last seven months. In the past I would have maybe 3 periods in a year. I had bad cramping and a heavy flow, but no other symptoms. This month (just for the last few days) I have noticed that my breasts are extremely tender. It is especially noticable at night when I take my bra off and my breasts droop. I have only experienced this type of soreness twice, and that was with each of my pregnancies. I really don't think I'm pregnant, becuase my period is not due anytime soon, not to mention the fact that my husband had a vasectomy two years ago. Also, I haven't had any nausea, which I had from the very beginning with both of my pregnancies. I just wanted to hear from other post-ops and find out if anyone else has had this tenderness. Is it related to your cycle? During what part of your cycle does it happen (mid-cycle, during menstruation)? Do you know what causes it? I guess I just want to know that I'm normal. Any responses would be appreciated. — Jenny S. (posted on April 21, 2003)

I am 9 months post-op and have just begun having pms (for the first time in
my life) I have taken four or five pregnancy tests because like you, the
only time I have had this kind of tenderness was during pregnancy. So I
can relate, and I just wear my bra almost constantly until the 3rd or 4th
day of my period when I am back to normal. Good Luck!

I have ALWAYS (20 years) had breast tenderness in the days (to week) before
my cycle, in varying degrees from month to month...I just figured it was
part of the PMS thing.

Hey Jerica!! You are not alone! I had my surgery 11/15/2002 and my
breasts are very tender all the time (even more so prior to my menstrual
cycle). I've never been pregnant so I don't have that to compare to but
pregnancy is not an option for me either (hubby had vasectomy years ago)...
I definitely notice more tenderness the few days prior to my cycle
starting. Good luck and hopefully someone can enlighten us as to why this
is happening....

YES---YES---YES!!!! OMG...my poor boobers hurt ALL THE TIME!! They are
soo bad that I don't even like DH to touch them. (sorry)! One plastic
surgeon told me that when they are all stretched and sagging, that the
nerve endings in those become irritated all the time...I don't know if I
buy it...but it is as good as a reason as any, I guess. Have a Sparkling
Day!! ~CAE~

Original poster here: I just wanted to come back and post here. My breast
soreness lasted for four days, and was followed immediately by my period. I
know that many women experience this every month, but I never had. I guess
this is just another one of those changes my body has gone through due to
wls. This subject can be embarassing, but I wanted to be sure to come back
and share this. I think this library is a great source of information for
both pre-ops and post-ops. It is important that we share as much knowledge
with each other as possible.
