Question:
How often should we get B-12 shots?
Is it once a month? Every few months? Also, does insurance generally cover these frequent injections due to our surgery? Thanks alot! — jengrz (posted on April 15, 2003)

My doctor has us take a 1ml injection of B12 once a month. Now I have gone
2 months between shots before and boy oh boy could I tell the difference.
The last 2 weekds before I got the shot I felt like I'd been hit by a mack
truck. Hope this helps, also my dh gives me my injections which makes it
easier than going to the doc all the time. Take care...Robin

Hi! Of course every doc is different, but mine has us get a B-12 shot
every two weeks for the first two months then once a month thereafter. And
yes, my insurance does pay! Good luck!

Mt last bloodwork showed that I'm below normal in B-12 and I'm anemic(sp?).
My PCP prescribed B-12 shot once a month however my insurance co. (Cigna
of GA) denied to pay for it. I go to my surgeon thursday for my 6 mt.
check up so I'll see what I have to do now. Good luck to you. Sidney Open

I requested the prescription - so I can give them to myself (actually, my
friend gives them to me..I'm a wimp!). Insurance covers it, but I get
almost a years supply of stuff plus needles for under $15 (Cigna EPO). I've
played around a little bit, I prefer mine every 3 weeks or so. I could go
more often, it's consistently around 400 (200-1200 range). Works for me!
I'm ten months out, btw, down 142.
