Question:
Self Pay -- Is Canada cheaper?
I am looking for information on any doctor in Ontario that takes USA citizens that are self pay and any information on the cost. — Grace_Smith (posted on April 9, 2003)

Don't bother Grace. There are very few WL surgeons here, and the ones that
do WLS have 2-4 year long waiting lists. I went out of Canada for mine, and
found a reasonable self-pay surgeon in Rochester, NY. Email me privately if
you want info. ([email protected])

Hi Grace,
Here is a list of all the WLS surgeons in Canada:
http://bandsters.crosswinds.net/Surgeons.htm
There are not many here in Canada, I'm not sure if any will take US
patients. The best you could do is call their offices and ask. What
surgery are you interested in? I know the wait for the RNY is really long.
I'm in Alberta and waited 2 years. Also, no surgeons here do lap RNY's or
VBG's. There are several who do the lap band though. Good luck, if you
have any more questions feel free to ask. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov.4/02

I spoke with a lady last week who went to France and had it done. Her cost
there was $11,000.00 which is very reasonable really. She is a member of
an e-group in Huntsville, Alabama called WingsofWLS. They are a yahoo
group. You might look up that group and join and see if you can locate
her. She said her experience was great!

Hi~ I went to Ensenada,Mexico and had Open-RNY with Dr.Aguirre. The
"TOTAL" cost is $6,900.00 plus your travel expenses. I'am now 13
days post-op and feel "WONDERFUL" If I had insurance or
$100,000.00 and know what I know now I would still go to Dr.Aguirre in
Mexico. I have all of the information in my profile in great detail, hoping
it would help some other self-payers out. Good Luck!
