Question:
Lately there have been reports of so many health benefits in taking a low
dose (baby) asprin each day. The benefits include lower risk of colon cancer and of course, heart attacks. My twin sister took a baby asprin a day for one week and has developed an ulcer in her pouch. Of course it may have been caused by other reasons too. My question is: Have any postops taken or presently take the asprin a day regime? If so, have you experienced any problems with it? I am 17 mos post op. Thanks! — Mylou52 (posted on March 30, 2003)

My surgeon said not to use any aspirin or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil)
products for that very reason. However, baby aspirins are so weak. Did
she take it on a full stomach?? That might have something to do with it.
Food in her pouch might have protected it from ulceration.

Aspirin is too harsh for our pouches, and may cause ulcers, which is why it
is on the "do not take this medication" list for post-ops. I
would think it would be very rare to find a post-op taking an aspirin a
day, except in unusual circumstances.

My post op instructions included taking a baby aspirin a day for three
weeks after surgery to help prevent blood clots! I had no problem with it
at all. I just took it with food.
