Question:
Does anyone know of a support group in Brooklyn and/or Manhattan?
My doctor is in Long Island & it is too far to attend meetings on week nights. — Joy W. (posted on March 8, 2003)

Come join us at the Lenox Hill group. The people, both pre and post op are
terrific, as are the Drs..

Hi Joy,
I know there's a group out of Mt. Sinai. I don't attend as I'm in
Northwestern NJ but I would check them out also. There is a web address of
www.surgicallyslim.com. It's run by the nutritionists there. There's a
group for RNY and DSers.

Lenox Hill offers two support groups. One for the RNY and one for the LAP
Band.
Since 4 months before my surgery, I have attended the RNY surgery support
groups in Manhattan at Lenox Hill Hospital as run by Drs. Roslin, Kurian
and Leitman. Though I had very little anxiety, being sure that this
procedure was going to change my life for the better, the support group
provided me with answers to questions I never thought to ask on my own.
As a PRE-OPerative patient, I was eternally grateful for the POST-OPerative
perpectives of surgery. I continue to be grateful to the POST-OPS who are
out longer than myself as I learn something new each time that I did not
know before.
These meetings put my mind at ease. If I now as a POST-OP patient can
provide the peace of mind to a PRE-OP patient that was given to me, then I
am happy to. We all need to remember we were on the other side once and
needed (and continue to benefit from) support. That is what a support group
does.
