Question:
Is it normal to feel excited, nervous, and scared?
I just don't know what to think. I thought this day would never come. Now that it's close, I'm very nervous, scared, and excited at the same time. Is this normal? — Debbie W. (posted on March 7, 2003)

I am scheduled for 3/18 and have the same feelings. Keep thinking I will
back out or something will go wrong and it will be cancelled. But have
decided to leave it up to God. Good luck.

My surgery is 4-21 and I am a nervous wreck. I am getting hard to live with
and my kids told me they hope the doctor makes me nicer when he does my
surgery. Ouch! I am on a emotional roller coaster. Having said all of that
my angel tells me this is perfectly normal behavior. Good luck

My date is 3/19. I feel the same as you. I think it's normal. The waiting
is the hardest part. I think it would be weird if you didn't feel like
that. My prayers are with you.

My Lord yes! I had my surgery 11/15 and I remember being all three...I was
so giddy knowing my life was gonna change but scared that something could
happen. I have to admit though...keep your head high and stay positive...I
truly belive thats what made me recover so nicely! Best of luck to you!

Your about to start an exciting adventure that will be the start of a new
life- a new you...of course you should be excited. Its a wonderful journey
to good health and a new body. Nervous? Scared? We were all nervous and
scared. Thats normal when you are about to have major surgery, have your
insides re-arranged, and be eating almost nothing for a good month.
Something I did to help with the nerves...make a list of all the things you
cannot do now that you want to do post-op. I even took the list with me to
the hospital. I had things on there like, cross my legs comfortably, and
shop in a normal sized clothing store- both of which I do today! Good
luck...

Boy are we on the same boat? I just posted last week about the same thing.
I am going through this emotional roller coaster. One minute Im excited
about everything then next minute I'm scared. Then I see or chat to people
who have done it, then I'm ok again. Then I sit to write my will and I find
myself in tears. Now to top it all off my surgery might be postponed a
couple of days because of labs that might not be back on time! Im sure it's
all normal. *_* We are ok! It's just all crazy! But hey, it's all going to
be worth it. My thoughts are with you. Hope all goes well for you and you
have a speedy recovery.*_*

My surgery is 4/22, and I agree with everyone -- it's normal to feel
ambivalent, too. I have to do a liquid diet until then, and am thinking
sometimes "what the heck am I doing?" I get panicked and think
I'll never be able to eat again, but then I look at the before and after
pics and remember why I am doing this.

Boy, Oh Boy, that was me a month ago!! I will go back for my 1 month check
up next Tuesday. I even wrote a will at work and gave away all of my desk
supplies, push pins, calendar, etc. I was scared, excited and terrified. It
was all for nothing. So far (knock on wood!) it has been smooth sailing. I
had the Lap RNY. I have only puked once when I was about 12 days out and
had trouble with a noodle.

It is TOTALLY normal but you forgot to add INSANE! I was a nut before
surgery. The waiting is maddening. I felt very calm however on the day of
my surgery. Good luck!

Hi - I am very excited and anxious - not looking forward to the first few
days. I'm not fan of pain but I know I can tolerate it. SCARED - No way -
it's like anticipating Christmas - a new beginning that I know will bring
better health and an increase of energy and ability to more things with my
family. God bless you and give you peace. Sally - 3/26/03 !!!!!, Harrison,

Hurrah for You!!!!! Yes, you are completely normal. There would be
something wrong with you if you didn't have all those emotions. I just got
a call from the insurance company. I was approved in 1 day. I am
scheduled for April l4th. After the call I freaked out. It was WOW this is
really going to happen. I am nervous, worried about blood clots but the
emotion I feel the most is excitement. I can't wait for that day to come.
It is something I have been working on since Dec. 18th. We will both get
through it and it will be like starting life all over again. Just keep
saying to yourself " I CAN DO IT AND I WILL" My best to you and
to all who are about to take this journey, think only goods thoughts and
you will be fine. LOL, Maureen

OMG!!!! So I AM normal??? My date is 4/16/03. I have had plenty of
surgical procedures to know what to expect. The surgeon has told me that
compared to what I've already had done, this will be much easier.
Regardless of all of this, I have been a nervous wreck! I thought I was
upset with myself for getting this big, but that level of anger is nothing
compared to the anxiety I am feeling about this upcoming date.
It is so bad at times that I actually get sick. I'm going to have to call
my PCP and get something to calm these nerves. I have NEVER been like this
before. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad. I sit here and wonder
if my body is trying to tell me something. Then this morning on the drive
into work, I heard a great song. I could remember dancing and acting like
a lovable idiot in the past when hearing this music, today I just bobbed my
head and thought...okay..this is a sign... I need to get back to that 'old'
me again and surgery is the only way to do it. I felt better at the time,
but now (3 hrs later)...I'm scared again. Can someone please fast forward
the next 5 weeks and 1 day??? Please?

Ditto to the previous posters note, LOL..I'm normal too!!(By the way,
Debbie, thanks for the private email). Being nervous, scared, and excited
all at the same time is COMPLETELY NORMAL. We all went through it at some
point during this journey. Just think of the rewards it will bring. My
goodness!! You will not only feel better, but you'll look like and get the
attention of a REAL movie star
(okay, the part about the movie star may not be totally true, but you'll
FEEL like it. Besides, if you've ever been in pain, that will subside as
well. I'm enjoying a *Royal* life, hence, my signature name. Just calm
down, call me if you need me, but also be encouraged, with a faith and
belief in the Almighty, a supportive spouse, this web "family"
friends and/or family, you've got it made!!Hope this helps!
