Thanks alot :) — jengrz (posted on February 2, 2003)

Jennifer, This is almost impossible to answer. What tastes really good to
me might taste terrible to you. The only way to find out is to try them.
If you go to www.vitaladay.com you can order samples. The samples are
enough for 1 serving and are pretty inexpensive, so that's one way to find
out what you might like. Also, GNC will let you return anything you don't
like, even after you've opened it. I think you just have to try some to
see what you like. Having said all that, I'll say that I have used ProCel
and UpcalD which you can mix into Crystal Light or watered down juice and
those don't alter the taste of whatever you mix them into.

Try Real Meals here is a link to their site and recipe page. They have
about 30 smoothy and frosty recipes to use with it.

Everyone's taste is different....some drink them because they need them
regardless of the taste. I have not been able to find one that I can
handle. I am still using the Carnation Instant Breakfast - NO SUGAR ADDED.
It is not as high in protein as "Protein" drinks, but at least I
like it and I am getting some additional protein with it. My local support
group is having a protein drink party this month. Everyone brings a
different brand of drink, blenders, hand mixers, fruits to mix in etc.
This way everyone gets to try a little before they go out and spend alot of
money on something they can't stand....maybe if you are part of a support
group you could try one month to have protein party.

I have spent a small fortune on protein supplments. I could not tolerate
anything (not even the koolaid type) UNTIL I discovered- 100% whey by
American Sports Nutrition, it dissolves complety in milk or water, no
lump, clups ir grittiness and BEST of ALL no nesty after taste- My personal
favorite flavor is Banana Blast- great alone or with fruit or PB or
flavored crystal light added.
I purchase it on line at www.musclesurf.com.

I also found that Sugar-Free Carnation Instant Breakfast was the best
tasting protein drink out there. Make it with milk (can add ice) and add
extra nonfat powdered milk--comes out to around 30 grams of protein.
Tastes a lot like chocolate milk!

The best tasting I have ever tried is Real Meals and you just have to drink
a small amount to get a full 60 grams a day. Some of the other ones I
tried tasted good but I would have to drink half a gallon to get 60 grams.

A GREAT TASTING PROTEIN DRINK THAT IS NOT A MEAL REPLACEMENT IS CALLED
SUPREME WHEY PROTEIN CHOCOLATE EXPLOSION, IT HAS 31 GRAMS PER ONE LEVEL
SCOOP THAT YOU MIX WITH WATER. LESS THAN 1 GRAM OF FAT, 2.5 GRAMS OF SUGAR,
4 CARBS AND 1.5 GMS OF FIBER. IT IS NOT THAT THICK, HARD TO SWALLOW STUFF.
I LOOK FORWARD TO IT A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND I AM VERY HARD TO PLEASE WHEN
IT COMES TO TASTE. I PAID ABOUT $22.00 FOR 22.5 SERVINGS. YOU CAN FIND IT
AT WWW.DYMATIZE.COM

Since surgery I find I prefer the fruit flavored protein best and I add
some frozen fruit to them or use Designer Protein natural whey because it's
almost tasteless and I can add splenda and frozen fruit to make my own
berry flavored drink. The Designer Protein Natural is a good base for
other ingredients but occasionally I use MetRx Original Vanilla or EAS
Vanilla or Lean Body Vanilla for a "base" drink. I find that I
cannot tolerate many protein drinks in their "pure" form. I
bought a bunch of samples from vitalady (mostly fruit and some vanillas)
and tried them straight, with adding things and mixing some of them up (I
mixed some of the raspberry and strawberry flavors).

Jennifer, I agree with Gar. Everyone's taste is different. The best way is
to just order some samples from vitalady.com. That's what I did. My
personal favorite is Designer Whey Protein, chocolate flavor. I have one
scoop with a cup of milk every morning. I also add a packet of Equal. I
just stir it and drink it like chocolate milk. YUMMY! This gives me about
25 grams of protein. Remember, we can only absorb 30 grams of protein at a
time. Drinking something that has 60 grams of protein is a waste of money
and protein powder unless you only drink half and save the other half for
later. Also, once you decide which protein supplement you like a very good
website to order from is www.esupp.net. At GNC a 2 pound container of
Designer Whey is $30. I can get a 5 pound container for the same price
($30) at esupp.net

Its true-everyone's taste is different. Early post-op, I did the koolaid
type protein drinks mixed with water and ice and sipped all day. When I
was able to handle shakes, my favorite is vanilla zero carb Isopure. Its
base is the whey isolate type of protein so its better absorbed. I doctor
it, of course, with frozen fruit, or banana or other additives to make it
taste better. I've been using Designer Whey Chocolate but am about to
switch to ProScore 100 chocolate. Don;t bother trying samples until you
arepost-op, as tastes will change drastically.

I tried Myoplex low carb and Atkins Advantage chocolate ready to drink
shakes. I picked them up at GNC.. I don't care for fruit flavored drinks
even now, so those aren't an option for me. The Atkins has higher fat
content than the Myoplex, but my nutritionist said it was fine. I tried
the cafe Au Lait Atkins and it wasdn't great. I also tried the Real Meals
since Linda has been so successful with it, but it's not for me.The texture
is too gritty.

Everyone's taste is different but I like the chocolate, vanilla, and
strawberry Isopure. 2 scoops have 50g of protein and about 210 calories so
I only use one scoop. You can buy it at GNC (and return it if you don't
like it), it is about $50 for a 3 pound tub or they sometimes have samples.
If you do like it it is cheapest to get in online, about $35 each. My
friends and I order together to save on shipping.

I have tried so many different protein shakes and spent a small fortune
doing so. I have, however, found a shake that I could handle. Its even
very yummy! Its called ProBlend 55 and the flavor is Mocha Cappacino. Its
contains no coffee, just the flavoring. Yummy! I get it from Vitalady.com

Boy, look at all the answers! It just goes to show that if you really keep
looking around and try lots of samples , you can probably find a protein
shakes you like. :)
I vote for Proscore 100 Chocolate, which ROCKS!
I mix it just with 6-8 ounces of water and put it in the freezer for 15
minutes or so, it's taste. 30 grams of protein, 4 grams of carbs, 0
sugar.
I ordered a bunch of samples from www.vitalady.com as a
pre-op. It turned out that I'm one of those weirdos whose taste did NOT
change after surgery (except that I now don't like the taste of really
fatty foods). So I was glad to have the Proscore 100 Chocolate already on
hand after my surgery. I also like ProBlend 55 Swiss Chocolate, which you
can also get at GNC if you forget to place your online order with vitalady
on time and *run out* (D'oh!!).

I really like the met-rx i like the cholate , but i think it is too thick
so i only use half with 8 oz of cold water and 4 ice cubes blend well, to
me it tastes like a cholate milk shake.

After tryijg about 15 of them I gave up! They all were too disgusting to
get down, with Real Meals leading the pack of what made me gag. i am now
using a sports nutrition Cookie that is made with splenda and has 15 grams
of protein and 5 grams of fiber...it tastes great and makes a super
breakfast! They have a lot of flavors so I can get some variety, much
better for me than shakes.

Jennifer - Preop I was addicted to ProScore 100 Chocolate (like is there
any other flavor..), but now I've switched to Champion Nutrition Pure Whey
Protein Stack. It is chocolate and easily mixed without clumps. I usually
put it in a container and mix with water and shake. Less water makes for a
more thicker chocolatey flavor (which is what my husband likes). I like
thinner so I can take my vitamins with them. I get all my protein from
www.vitalady.com. Good luck. (RNY 08/28/01 -105 lbs)

I've found that I like the Results For Women (weight management drink) by
EAS...you can buy it at WalMart.....<1 gram of sugar, 15 grams of
protein with only 5 carbs.....my surgeon said today that I made a good
choice do to these amounts. I love the Chocolate Fudge....vanilla is o.k.
Does not taste anything like a protein drink. You can also go to
www.EAS.com and check these out

I like Zero-carb Isopure in the bottles. Gatorade-type drinks with 40g
protein. 7 flavors. I split each bottle into 2 drinks and dilute it with
water, so I get twice as much for the $.

I can also tolerate EAS Advant Edge Carb Control shakes in the silver
boxes. Chocolate fudge and strawberry.
