Question:
Anyone get around the 2 year phycisian supervised weight loss history reuirement?
I have BCBS and my first consultation is next Tuesday. I called BCBS last week to find out what their requirements are and one of them is 2 years of physician supervised weight loss history. In the past 2 years I have only 2 office visits related to my weight. I don't care for doctors that much and just don't go that often. 5 years ago I was prescribed REdux and consulted with my OBGYN numerous times about weight loss...but that is not in the past 2 years. My recent weight loss attempts, though not medically supervised, have been earnest attemts using the Richard Simmons diet plan. Anyway to get around this requirement for 2 years history??? By the way..I have BCBS of Ala PPO Preferred Care for State Employees. — April G. (posted on January 9, 2003)

I have Horizon BCBS of NJ and other than asking what other diets I had been
on it was never brought up. I had been to LA Weight Loss, Jenny Craig,
NutriSystem and WW. I had also been on Xenical, Redux but for short
periods of time. I was never on a doctor-supervised program other than the
prescriptions. I woud ask the doctor for advice.

My physician wanted the same thing. What I did was write on a piece of
paper all the diets I've been on whether they've been supervised by a
doctor or not. (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc.) Let him know of all
the weight loss medications; prescribed or over the counter drugs you've
used while trying to lose weight. The more you provide to him, the less
questions he'll ask. Also, let him know how successful you were in losing
the weight while on these programs. Keep a copy of it just in case your
insurance company wants a copy of it.
