Karen, your profile has no information on it that we can use to answer your
question - no BMI or starting weight! If you are a lightweight, then 16
pounds is OK. Keep in mind that everyone loses at a different rate, so to
compare your loss to others will drive you nuts. There are ALWAYS people
who start out at the same height and weight as you and lose faster - its
just a fact. The important thing to remember is that we all lose weight by
following the Pouch rules - concentrating on lots of protein, low or no
carbs and sugars, exercise, no drinking with or right after meals, and lots
of water. As for sugar cravings, try fresh fruit-its sweet and should
satisfy the sugar cravings, or try SF snacks like SF chocolate, or SF ice
creams.

I chew sugar free gum. Its sweet but not harmful. Sugar free pudding is
good and not too high in calories. Try some lite cool whip on it. The jello
is yuk.

I can't really say about your weight loss, because I don't know where you
started, but some suggestions for the sweet tooth: I chew sugar free Orbitz
gum (I didn't chew gum for fifteen years before surgery). I suck on the
new sugar free CremeSavers. Sugar free Jell-o (the kind you make, not the
kind that comes pre-made, yuck!). I use some Lite Cool Whip with the
Jell-o, or even lowfat cottage cheese for protein. Some low-fat cottage
cheese or ricotta cheese with cinnamon sugar that I make with Splenda and a
little Vanilla. Sugar free Popsicles and SF Fudgsicles. No sugar added
applesauce with same cinnamon sugar. Dannon Light yogurt. This brand of
Sugar free chocolate called Ross. They have it at CVS and it's yummy, but
I didn't start with that sort of thing until 9 or so months out. Even a
spoonful of Simply Jiff Peanut Butter or Lite Cool Whip alone will do it
for me.

To help with the sugar cravings I'd go on a either low or no carb food
plan. When you eliminate the carbs from your diet, you usually loose the
cravings. My husband and I did Atkins in 2001, would couldn't believe how
we lost the desire for sweets. The protein also makes me feel full for so
much longer!

Only one things stops mine, or brings them under control. Whey protein
supps. made with water, not anything like milk or juice. Sugar is sugar,
regardless the source. And sugar begets sugar. The more you get, the more
you want. Taking small nibbles is like only drizzling gasoline on a fire.
Still builds the fire. Protein (supplement) helps put ME back in the
driver's seat.

I use ISS Research Pro42 bars. Each is big enough for two snacks so cut it
in half but they are awesome and cure my sweet tooth instantly. Sugar
free, low fat, and high protein. Best prices are at www.netrition.com

I've been told that averaging a weight-loss of 4 pounds a week is a good
healthy loss. Compute that out a bit and you have 40 pounds in 10 weeks
and 80 pounds in 20 weeks (or 5 months). Not bad!
