My doctor okayed salads as one of my first foods - I started eating them at
5 weeks out. Hope this helps.

I think you're fine to start trying to eat salads--if your nutritionist
and/or doc okay'ed it. I am 12 weeks post-op (down 50+ lbs!!) and still
can't eat them. My PCP told that it's probably because of the bulk and
roughage. He suggested CHEWING CHEWING CHEWING and trying to eat more
salads, but I'm having a time with them still. Just thought I'd add my two
cents and say in case you try them and can't keep them down, try again in a
couple weeks and remember to chew A LOT. Good luck!

I had my first salad at 5 weeks post-op. Best think I ever tasted!
Lettuce, tomato, shredded carrot, mushroom, onion, hard boiled egg, kidney
beans and shredded chicken. I still have that at least once a week-with
either chicken, tuna or steak in it. Just chew well!

I had my first salad at about 6 wks. It was so good even though I couldn't
eat much. I added thin sliced turkey and boiled egg to give me the protein
we require. Be very careful with the dressing at first to see it it agrees
with you. If there is an O'Charlies restaurant near you they have a salad
with cajun chicken on it. It is awesome, I have one every Sunday.

Tonisha,
My DH and I both had RNYs. We don't waste stomach space on salads. I
ordered an Italian salad and ate just the meat and cheese and the little
tomatoes. Protein first. I agree with the poster who said watch the
dressing. I din't even touch the stuff I had ordered on the side.

My Dr didn't allow salads until I was 4 mo.'s post op, only because I have
a problem getting enough calories during the day and there is basically
nothing in salad. Everyone is right though, watch the dressing!
