Surgi-cream is about the best depilatory cream out there. However they make
a stronger version sold only in salons that is even better. I've had bad
redness with the Sally Hansen creams. I only wish I could afford to get
waxed regularly! I need the brows, chin, moustache, even a few on the neck!
Yikes! I just tweeze the strays between uses of the cream.

p.s. You can find the regular Surgi-cream at Osco or Walgreen's.

You can buy home waxing kits. They work great, just heat them up in the
microwave, spread it on, and OOOOOOWWWWWWWIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE.......no hair.
The good thing is, it lasts for a long time, and is less obvious when it
does grow back. You will have to do it about once a month or so....but
thats better than twice a day shaving.

Boy o boy do I know where you are coming from! I made the vital mistake of
shaving when my fine hairs grew too many (hormonal problems) and guess
what..instead of fine, blonde hairs it turned DARK and corse and gross and
like a freakin' man! I hate it more than anything!! I grow more there
than I do on my legs or pits. I personally think the waxing will not work
due to the thickness that it gets once you shave...waxing wouldn't work on
a man's chin.
If anybody else has any ideas that they KNOW would work..send me a line too
if you don't mind. Let me know how this goes. I am even considering a
plastic surgeon for the laser hair removal.
Take care...and keep that chin up! ;o) Trish

I use the Surgi-wax found at Walgreens. You just put it in the microwave.
I still have to do this about once a week as well as minor tweezing
throughout the week, but much better than when I had to shave it.

A friend of mine had some unwanted hair on her upper lip and went and had
them removed with laser(sp?). I have not really checked into this
proceedure so I don't know a whole lot about it but I do know that she paid
around $65 to have it done and the hair doesn't come back. I have some on
my upper lip I may get removed soon. I would look maybe in the yellow
pages under hair removal or ask around. Maybe a dermatologist could point
you in the right direction. I have tried the creams before and I dont know
if it is that I am extra sensitive or what but every one that I have tried
has burned my face so bad. I think $65 is a cheap price for PERMANENT
removal. Good Luck!

Electrolysis is the answer here, baby. I've had only (luckily) two funky
hairs on my chin removed but after being paranoid about them for 15 years
it's laughable how easily they were PERMANENTLY removed for $25!!! Usually
they can give you a 1/2 hour or 1-hour quote over the phone, sometimes you
have to go back, but I'm telling you it's worth it not to have them dang
hairs!!!

Hi! I'd be interested in finding out more about laser treatment. I find
this whole hair removal thing a racket. I went to electrolysis for almost
a year and had no noticable reduction in hair on my chin or sides of face.
It did help with some of my upper lip. The technician was baffled and
suggested I have my hormones checked.... that came back normal. I have
read a book called "The Good News about Women's Hormones". The
author, a doctor, swears that shaving does NOT increase hair growth and
that any increased hair growth would have happened anyway - shaving or not.
He suggests some drugs that help, but not alleviate the problem. One is
spiralactone (sp?) basically a blood pressure drug. My PCP is totally
against it and won't prescribe it. I'm leary of taking it because although
I HATE my man-like facial hair, I really enjoy having thick healthy hair on
my head. GRRRR it's so frustrating. I'm going to try the surgicream,
becasue everything else has just burned my skin off before taking off any
hair!!! The best thing I've found is NAIR, yes NAIR on my face. In the 4
minutes its on, it actually burns off the hair before it fries my skin...
but it's not that great. I'm hoping that significant weight loss might
help my situation.

Just wanted to chime in on the laser treatment discussion. My
dermatologist told me that she wouldn't recommend laser treatment to anyone
who has light colored/blond facial hair. The laser doesn't do a good job
of picking it up and it works much better on people with dark facial hair.
Me, I have some light hairs on my chin that probably no one but me sees but
it irritates the heck out of me! Not to mention some rogue hairs on my
neck that I usually don't see until they are very long! I usually pluck
but I've tried Nair and/or wax a couple of times but I don't care for it
because my skin is so sensitive, and feels burned and rough afterwards. I
have my eyebrows waxed at the salon and my skin will stay red for a whole
day, so I really don't want to try that on my face!

I remember when I first tried Nair. I had a horrible chemical burn on my
upper lip because of it. But that's all I will use now. They have a special
formula just for facial hair. But I still use the regular kind made for
legs on my face and it works fine.
