Question:
Did anyone else have pain w/ EVERYTHING they ate- liquid, mush, etc.
I am adhering to my diet 11 days post op and eating pureed the consistency of applesauce, but everything I swallow seems to hit a "tender spot". It isn't a matter of too much, its with the first bite and every bite. I am starting to be afraid to eat. The pain is somewhat intense but goes away quickly. Is this just part of the process??? I don't have an answer for you, but I have the same problem. I am 1 month
out and everything including water feels like I am swallowing broken glass.
it goes away quickly, but hurts while it is here. I am interested in
finding out why also. Joan

I have been having the same problem i am almost 6 weeks out and it is
getting better i can drink now some more without the pain. I think it is
just the areas healing. I ask the nurses and they didnt have an answer for
me. so if anyone has an explaination we would all love to hear it.

It might be gas. Try eating smaller bites, because you might be ingesting
too much air. Also over the counter Tagamet might help. I'm almost nine
months out, and it still hurts if I over eat. My doctor was only having us
eat liquids the first month. It could be your body just isn't ready for
more yet. If this problem continues consult your doctor. Could be a more
serious problem. Leigh

Drinking a small swallow of water before eating a bite helped me during
that stage.

I had that experience the first week and ended up doubled over with pain
one evening. I had what they call a herniated intestine or a kink in my
intestine....making it hard for food to seep through and causing pain. They
went back in lap to fix it and I spent a week in the hospital. I am 100%
better and felt better as soon as I was able to drink/eat again. Please
think about having this checked! Look on my profile for more details.

Leigh,
I had this too. It started about 2 weeks post-op just when I thought I was
getting out of the woods. I had one day where I couldn't eat OR drink my
stomach hurt so bad. I called my doctor and spoke with him personally
about this. He told me that my stomach was still healing just like my
scars. That when I ate or drank it hit my healing stomach and it was
normal for it to hurt (I called it "cramping" if this is the same
thing you're experiencing). I am now 7 weeks post-op and have just started
noticing no pain. It takes several weeks for this to go away. It really
sucks but...it will go away.

I'm surprised that nobody suggested the possibility of a stricture. That
is the way mine started and by 2.5 weeks I was throwing up everything. If
it continues/gets worse, please be seen for this. Read my profile for more
info on strictures.
