Question:
Has anyone had to go on a VERY VERY LOW-CARB diet before surgery to shrink your liver
so that surgery will go quicker? Thanks!! — Pizofret (posted on December 10, 2002)

I have to do the same thing and I know that everyone who sees my surgeon
does too. Are you having Lap? The liver of many obese people is very fatty
and therefore enlarged and it does sit in front of the stomach somewhat.
"Shrinking" it prior to surgery makes everything easier to see
from the surgeons point of view.

I had my surgery Lap on 12/3 and I had to do the carb and fat reduced diet.
I followed it to the best of my ability. I am on the light side as they say
and my doctor said he almost had to open me up. Make sure you follow the
diet unless you don't care about getting opened up. Good luck.

My surgery is in two days and my doctor told me just last week to go on a
high protien/ low carb diet to shrink my liver. I am keeping my fingers
crossed that it will work. I really don't want to be opened up. Good
Luck!!
