Question:
UCSF Has anyone recently been through their program
Just wanted to get some recent info on UCSF. Most of the info under Dr. Patti and Dr. Ostroff is dated and YIKES many of the posts show patients switching to someone else. I am very concerned because I got a referral from my HMO (Yeah!) but instead of refering to the local hospital's WLS program I got a referal to UCSF. Please, if you have any recent updates on your experiences with UCSF, please let me know. — w8free (posted on November 20, 2002)

Hi Elizabeth---about UCSF-I almost was going to go there, but I heard the
wait is several months just to get a consult! I am going to Dr. Li in
Burlingame. They have a website called thinner future. Not sure if you
can maybe get a referral to them. Good Luck

A bit off topic, but if you'd like to learn about duodenal switch, there
are info meetings the first Saturday of every month at the San Jose
Regional Medical Center. http://gr-ds.com. I'm extremely happy with DS and
surgeon!

Hey there...I, too was all set to go to UCSF. They have a very very strict
10% weightloss requirement before you can meet the surgeon. I had to lose
30 lbs and was almost there (had 4 lbs to go) and they said-sorry...lose
those 4 and then reschedule an appt). I did everything I had to do before
meeting the surgeon...psych eval, stress test, card eval blah blah. I was
so upset abot those 4 lbs (i did all i could to lose what i did) I decided
to switch to Blue Sheild and starting in Jan 03, I will be going to Mills
Peninsula in Burlingame. I heard that Dr. Wetter is very good and he's
happy if you lose some lbs before surgery-but no requirement...thank you
Jesus! I'm no baby-Iunderstand what the 10 % loss is all about- but let US
decide if after surgery we're goig to succeed or not.
