My surgeon bypassed 150 cm, that's almost 5 ft.. which makes it a distal!!!
post-op 02-27-02 -144pds -95 inches, starting weight 270 pounds/ current
weight 126 pounds went from size 3x/4x tops and 26/28 jeans to small tops
and size 3/4 jeans!! sorry just have to post my stats!!But it makes me feel

Hi,
I asked my doc that question today at my 1month post op check. He said he
bypassed 75 cm. That's a proximal. My pouch size was 1 ounce. My
beginning weight was 294, and he bypassed the least amount that most
surgeons will bypass, so I hope I will be able to make it to my goal of
150lb. :) By the way, I lost 29 lbs as of today :)

I know how much I have left in use. 40", 100cm, common channel. This
would make my bypass around 300-350cm, give or take.

I had 150 cm. bypassed which is considered a "long Roux limb".
It is NOT distal. Hope this helps.

I had 150 cm bypassed. My doctor does that standard for all patients.

I had 150 bypassed and was called 'medial'. Maybe that is why there is a
difference in opinion when naming it proximal or distal. Maybe 150 is
smack dab down the middle and can be defined as either.

I've done a ton of reading and most say that more than 150cm is a distal.

Yep, from my reading, 150 cm is smack dab in the middle of prox and distal.
Some docs use the terminology, medial, others say no such thing. But,
because it seems to be the cut-off point, I call it medial. BTW, I'm 150 cm
bypassed.
