Question:
Can I make it to MY goal?

Hi Everyone. I have just a few days to go before surgery and I'm starting to worry/wonder about things. I KNOW not to compare my loss with anyone else but I would like to know if anyone with my stats (or thereabouts) have made it to the 140's? I really would like to get there if I can and would like to know if others have had the good fortune to make it. I'm 5'7" and 267.5 as of today. How long did it take you to get there? What diet did you follow? Thank you for all your help and understanding.    — Siddy I. (posted on October 18, 2002)

Well, you are quite a bit taller than me but I thought I would respond anyway. I am 5'3 and 3/4" and I am just over 6 months post op (surgery Lap RNY 4-8-02). I started at 245 and am now at 150, a loss of 95 pounds in 6 months. As far as what diet I used well....I don't really consider this a diet....but I am able to eat pretty much whatever (except high sugar content I have not tried much) and I feel like I can eat a lot more than others, don't know for sure if it is really true. Anyway, I have been doing a lot of various exercise since surgery. From the time I got out of the hospital I started walking 2 miles per day (split up) and then continued with a variety of stuff such as workout videos, backpacking with my baby in the pack, bike riding, weight training and an elliptical trainer, and just walking walking walking. I have even tried jogging a few times but I'm not very good at it. Don't let all the exercise scare you. It is so much easier to exercise once you start losing some weight. Physically and emotionally, it is easier. I am sure you will do fine! Good luck on your upcoming surgery. You can read my profile for more info. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

I am 5'6" and started at 245, now less than a year out I have surpassed my surgeons goal and and 6 lbs. from my goal. So officially 'at goal' and would be pleased if I stayed here. I am currently 151, so only 2 lbs. from the 140's. And working hard to get there. You can most certainly make your goal! I always *try* to get my protein first although it doesn't always happen, and I don't beat myself up about any food choices. I now crave the healthier foods, fruits being my fav, and repulsed by greasy, high fat, high sugar foods. It definitely makes it easier to obtain your goal, and I feel so much healthier too. This has actually been quite easy for me. But I did *expect* the plateaus along the way so when they happened I didn't get all worked up about it. Of course in the back of my mind I was thinking, "Is this it", but knew that it wasn't. I have appreciated this surgery every step of the way...it gave me back more than I could have imagined. I love my life and having my health back. I feel free. Good luck to you in your journey.

I had surgery 10-3-01 I am 5'6"/5'7" depending on my mood. I started at 266 and as of today, I weigh 140 and wear a size 8. Honestly......I think I am too thin. I would like to be about 150. But we all are different.

I was 5'6" and weighed 277, I made it to 187, in about 6 months. Then I inched back to 195 and here is where I have stayed- while I don't drop th epounds- I do not gain either. I think some bodies are just different! After I have my baby I will try and get down to 150, my own goal, even if it kills me. But I expect my body to be fighting me the whole way....... but I'll give it my best. At least then I will know if it is ME or my BODY.
