Question:
Do you know of a good surgeon that does the LAP RNY on 60 BMI's in AL.

Dr. J.K. Champion of Marietta, GA, has a large number of patients from
Alabama, and a very active satellite support group in the Huntsville area.
He is internationally renowned in the field of laparascopic WLS, and has
recently been featured on the Discovery Health channel for his work with
very obese individuals. My daughter had a BMI of 70 and had a very
successful, uncomplicated lap RNY with this exquisite surgeon. His web
site is www.drchampion.com. Good luck!

In the Birmingham area, I know there a several doctors that do LAP RNY.
Two of the most highly recommended are Dr. Les Miles and the Cahaba Valley
Surgical Group (Drs. Sherer, Stahl, & Christopher). I used Dr. Stahl
and had a successful LAP surgery. (My BMI was 43.) CVSG will do a
physical at your initial consultation and let you know if they think you
are a good candidate for the LAP surgery. Best wishes on your journey -

Hi. I coordinate the surgical weight loss program at Medical Center East
in Birmingham, Alabama. Our surgeons are Dr. Les Miles and Dr. Lee
Schmitt. Week before last we had a patient who weighed almost 600 pounds
(591 I think) and had a BMI of 75.9 that we did LAP. We had another
patient the same week who had a BMI of 85 that we did LAP. Both surgeries
were without complications and the patients are doing very well. One
patient was in the hospital for 2 days and one was in for 4. I'd be happy
to provide you with additional information if you'd like. Good luck to
you! This is a very exciting journey!

Dr. Amy Rose is in Biloxi, MS. Very highly recommended & sought after
surgeon. Performing lap on person with > 80 bmi. Her complication rate
is <0.04%. I've yet to find anyone that compares. She is meticulous in
her work. If you are not to far away, or even if you ARE, I'd still attend
her free seminar & meet her to judge for yourself.

I have to agree with Rona. Dr. Les Miles is the best!

Dr. Gleysteen at UAB is the best and has recently added the lap. He is
known for operating on the super morbidly obese and was part of the medical
research team that had RNY endorsed by the National Institute of Health.
Other than Dr. Gleysteen, I would recommend Dr. Champion in Atlanta.
