Question:
Anyone else having have dizziness?

I was having bad problems with dizziness & feeling faint & I went to my doctor for tests. It turned out to be panic attacks. So he put me on Xanax & I am just taking it as needed. Now I have begun to experience similar symptoms but they are more frequent. They seem to be occuring the most when I am standing, which I have to do at work all day,or when there is a sudden change in enviornment such as going from inside to out in the sun,or when dealing with loud noises. I get all queasy & dizzy, can't see straight & feel like I am going to pass out. Then I just feel shaky & I can't hear things right for a feel minutes untill this passes. After this happens to me,I have to go & sleep for 3 to 4 hours untill I feel better. I don't know if is is low potassium,or dehydration,or even possiably that I am not eating frequently enough. I am planning on seeing my doctor to have blood work done, but I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Thank you for your input.    — melmas (posted on September 29, 2002)

You opn any prescription drugs? BP of diabetes meds can cause this. Certinally see your doc. My BP went from 130 over 110 pre op to 85 over 58 post op. That got me off prinivil for BP. Lots of post ops have this trouble, your body is going thru a hugh adjustement very fast. It generally goes away over time, like mine did. Late afternoons were worst for dizziness, when the circidian rythym changes around 4 pm.

you may want to see if you have hypoglycemia...I found out after telling my doctor about dizzyness and headaches, he had me tested and sure enough I had low blood sugar...he just has me eat 100 calories every 2-3 hrs to keep it elevated...just a thought. i have read that this is common among wls patients.

Sounds like classic hypoglycemic symptoms to me. These symptoms are very similar to dumping syndrome because your blood sugar drops when you're dumping. A glucose tolerance test will show what's up, I'll bet.

I had the same problem. My cure was much eaiser. This is the way I figure When you are heavy and loose your blood pressure lowers. I also think that you have a tendency to through your weight around to be able to move. Be more deliberate about your movements. My yoga teacher told me this and it works!! Good Lux

When I don't get enough fluids, I become dizzy and light-headed.

Here is just a suggestion. I had similar problems and was diagnosed with Vertigo. I'm on Meclizine when needed. I get dizzy for what seems like no reason I can be just standing or whatever. The blood pressure is another good thing to have checked. Good luck with your blood tests. God bless!

If it's not the blood-sugar thing like some are saying, I'd think it was a migraine. There are MANY different types of migraines, and the symptoms you are describing are very typical. The sudden change in environment can trigger the headache (even if there's no pain!). Make sure you ask about that too. Please understand though, that dizzy spells are common among WLS post-ops. I've had them too, especially when going from a sitting or laying position to standing up. My DR says they are common, but usually work themselve out and go away.

Have any of you had your Thiamin levels checked? I have been having these symptoms but severe for the last 6 weeks. Everything including the MRI came back fine except my folic acid and thiamin levels. I am due to go in Monday for a Thaimin shot. I will let you know if it helps. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem. Thanks,
