Question:
please let me know if you had proximal or medial rny and took Flinstones

please email me to let me know if you took flinstones with iron vitamins every day after your surgery and if you experienced any vitamin deficiencies afterwards or if your protein labs were bad even though you took in at least 60 grams of protein by food. I have heard your labs get bad after two years on these vitamins from several groups, but i need to hear from the medials and proxmials who took the flinstones and never had any problems so i can see both sides of the story. thanks. email me at [email protected].    — Pat G. I take 2 Flintstone completes/day, sublingual b12, and 1,575 mg of Citracal+D (I'm post menopausal too). Get my protein without supplements unless I'm on the run when I'll grab an Atkins bar or a GNC whey prot drink. 64oz of water/day faithfullly! A week shy of a year and my labs look great! Proximal RNY down 104lbs

Hi! I had open RNY proximal done 7/25/01 and was put on Flintstones Complete with Iron post-op. Initially my doctor had me take 4 a day along with Tums and 500 mcg B12 sublingually. Well, I never took the Tums; I used 1000 mg of Chewable Calcium Citrate. After 6 months my labs were checked and my Iron was low (I am postmenopausal on HRT). My doc wanted to switch me to Centrum multivitamins (the capsules were too big for me) and put me on liguid ferrous sulfate which made me sick as a dog. On my own I stopped taking it and switched to a chelated form of elemental Iron with Vitamin C. At present I am still using 2 Flintstones each day as my multivitamins and taking 1000 mcg of B12 sublingually each day as well as 1500 MG of Calcium Citrate with Vit D capsule form now) with my chewable Iron. I have taken in at least 70 grams of protein each day since the first day post-op and my labs in July 2002 were perfectly normal. I think the Flintstones are good as a general multivitamin but you still need to supplement them with the Calcium Citrate, B12, and probably Iron (if your labs indicate anemia). Hope this answers your question.
