Question:
SoCal Dr. who's
Does anyone know of a surgeon in Southern California who is "in-network" for Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO? I have been unable to find anyone, and frankly do not have the $3000 for the out-of-network costs. Thanks! — blank first name B. (posted on September 9, 2002)

I have Blue Cross of CA. My surgeon was not "in network" but the
hospital (Alvarado Medical Center in San Diego) she uses is which greatly
reduced my out of pocket expenses! Good luck to you. :o)

I have Blue Cross PPO through Pers choice(State of CA). I am having
surgery at Pacific Bariatric in San Diego. They are a prefered provider
and so is the hospital they use Scripp's Mercy. I am unsure how you will
avoid the out of pocket costs though that is how a PPO works??? They pay
80% you pay 20%. Even with the surgeon and hospital being a provider my
out of pocket costs can be up to 3,000 dollars plus my $500 dollar
deductable. Hopefully since they are providers it wont be the whole
$3,000. You will be hard pressed to find a surgeon who will except the
insurance only....and forgive your portion.....that my dear is called an
HMO. Most important of all besides the money is that you choose the best
surgeon possible!!!! Pacific Bariatric has a wonderful success rate and
very talented surgeons. If you have any questions feel free to email me
anytime [email protected]

I have bs of Ca POS and I have my initial consultation on Thursday. I have
been told that Dr. Popoola of Surgical Center for Weight Loss will take
what the insurance is willing to pay as long as it is at least 70%. I
still have to pay deductibles but that you can't get around that. If you
want contact me by email thursday and I'll let you know for sure what they
said. I have researched for months so I know this is a good doctor as
well.
