I would think that any sleeping pill could worsen sleep apnea. The same
depressants that put you to sleep should/could (at least theoretically, and
in high enough doses) also depress the breathing centres of the brain.
(these centres are also implicated in sleep apnea). You should talk to your
doctor; maybe some meds are safer than others. For instance, I take 50-100
mg trazodone to sleep at night. It's not an actual sleeping pill, but an
antidepressant that just makes it easier to drift off to sleep. You might
want to try something milder like that.
