Are you sipping your water??? You can't gulp any more with these size pouches we have... Yes, watermelon would count for some water intake (not sure how to do the math *G*) - it's mostly water anyhow...

My DR says only non-caloric non-caffine beverages count as water. Try sipping small amounts through out the day. Good Lux

Linda I had the same problem immediately post op. My doc is the same, no calories, clear liquids, and caffine drinks dont count toward water intake. What I finally did was add a sqirt of lemon to my water, somehow that helped it settle in my tummy better, and I drank it less than ice, ice cold, just chilled. The good news is, this only lasted about four weeks, now I can drink water with no issues at all. Becarful with watermelon, I believe it is very heavy in sugar. Good luck, Denise

I also was have the nausa. My doctor told me I was taking too big or drinks and too fast. It causes to much pressure in our small pouches. So slow down and take smaller sips.

I have had the same problem with water. I have found that it depends on the type of water, and Ph level of the water. For instance, I can drink purfied water without feeling sick, but I cannot dring spring water. Recently I have begun drinking fitness waters. I like Propel which is made by Gatorade and has a bunch of vitamins in it. I ran it by my nutritionist at the surgeons office and she was impressed with it as a beverage. Reebok and Aquafina also make flavored waters that are little or no sugar but also include vitamins.

I have the same problem. Some of the natural waters work better for me--I guess the minerals in them help. Volvic goes down the best but the cost is prohibitive. =) I like sugar free tang and also water and ice with a splash of fruit juice (I never would have drank that before). I think the fruits and veggies DO count as water. Milk, too. I count everything except caffeinated stuff. It must be ok cuz I haven't made 64 oz but twice in a year but I eat plenty of fruit and just try to drink as much as I can and I feel fine. Unfortunately it is usually a good day if I can drink 36 oz of water. :( If you're gonna drink tea as your mainstay you should switch to decaf--especially if you can't drink enough water! I do drink coffee but no more than 2 cups a day.

Debbie, this will happen early on as a post-op. As time goes by you will be able to drink larger amounts of water without any nausea. I had a similar problem and had to slow down early on, but at 6 months post-op, I can drink like I used to as a pre-op.

I was told that watermelon actually caused you to lose hydration. So it is kinda like anti-water. Sry. I am fighting the liquid problem too. Good luck. Tom

How does water TASTE? How does it FEEL?

I had the same problem. Like everyone has said, anything made with water and is decaf counts as water. Try freezing some cubes made with diluted fruit juice, crystal light, decaf tea, etc. Chop 'em up in the blender and have ice chunks to chew on. Maybe you will tolerate it if you freeze it. Also, I am 8 months post op and ate and ate watermelon at about 6 months out. Never hurt my weightloss at all. (I live in Florida and it was watermelon season in June). I LOVE it! BUT, I wouldn't count it AS water intake.

Early on I had a real problem with anything sugar free to drink - the sugar substitue just didn't agree with me. Plain water made me nausus too. I added a squeeze of lemon or put in about 2 oz of juice with the water. Gatorade worked well for me too. Good luck to you, Leah

I'm one year post-op and still cannot tolerate plain water. My doctor says that he hears this a lot, which makes me feel better. I have relied upon Celestial Seasonings herbal teas for almost all of my liquid intake over the past year. Until recently, I could not tolerate cold drinks, but lately I have been able to drink iced herbal teas and even an occasional diet carbonated beverage. I have never counted watery foods such as watermelon as part of my liquid intake, but I have found that I like a little watermelon or cucumber to eat when I eat spicy or dry foods since I don't drink with meals. I am still focused on getting enough protein, so I try to save these side items until I have consumed most of my protein portion of the meal, but it's nice to have something cool and refreshing at the end.

I'm 10 months post-op and I still have a problem with plain water. My solution is Lipton's new COLD BREW decaff iced tea. You just put the tea bag in a glass of cold water, add ice, sweetener if you want, and VOILA -- easy to drink and no caffeine. I've found it at Food Lion. All the Best to you! CJ
