Question:
Am I losing too slow?
I am 10 weeks post op and have lost 40 ponds. I notice some people lose much faster. I guess I just need some reassurance. — jewelsemt (posted on August 9, 2002)

I understand how you feel. I am about 9 weeks out and I have lost about 40
lbs. It seems slow to me too, but every body tells me that we all lose at
our own speed. So I guess we have to just keep doing what we are susposed
to do and hope for our bodies to adjust and keep losing. Good Luck.

Julie, you are a lightweight, and you will be a slow loser. If you know
that in advance, then you won't feel so disappointed. Your BMI appears to
be 39 already. I was also a LW, and now 9 months post-op, I am 5 lbs. from
goal!! You may lose slower, but you will reach goal much faster. Look at
the percentage of excess weight that you have lost so far, I bet that it is
more than you think. If you only have 100 lbs. to lose total, and you have
already lost 40 lbs, then you have lost 40% of your excess, in ONLY 10
weeks! Celebrate!!

hiya
sorry, i should've read your post (my bad!) but i'm guessing you are like
me and considered a "lightweight", i only had, oh about 133lbs to
lose, and at about 10 weeks i'd lost "only 40 lbs"... i say
"only" cuz it's funny how we tend to minimize the loss when prior
to surgery we would've been on the moon if we lost 40lbs! heh heh
hang in there, exercise, drink water, EAT, and you will continue to lose
i made goal weight a few days after my 1 year wls anniversary and now i'm
5lbs under goal weight...you can do it!!

Julie, It has only been a week since I posted a similar question. I'm 7+
weeks with 30 gone. I too am a "lightweight". You are doing
super. You are not gaining. You are giving your body a little time to
adjust to this loss as it occurs, and you have a little advantage when it
comes to toning up as you lose. Keep up the good work, and you will hit
your goal a lot sooner than you think! Good Luck.

Hang in there. I know how you feel but it will come off just eat and drink.
I am a LW also and the weight seems to be very slow coming off. I was
disapointed at first but now I just keep thinking at least it is COMING
off. not like before when it would not budge.HANG IN THERE!!!!!!

I always look at it like this....When was the last time you lost 40 pounds
in 10 weeks? On an average diet, you are doing great if you lose 2 pounds
a week, so just think, you are doing DOUBLE that. Good luck and don't
worry so much about the numbers, it is HOW YOU FEEL !!!

DID YOU READ MY MIND????? I am having the same thoughts. I was just
talking to a friend in MSN about this when I read your post. I am 9 weeks
out and have only lost 36 lbs. I am so frustrated! I wanted to reach 100
lbs. in four months like other people talk about too.
Just know you are not alone here!

I thought I was losing slow but my DR says that he is happy with my weight
and that 6-12 lbs a month is ok with him. I will be 6 months out on 8/20
and I am only down 63 but that is half of what I need to lose so I am
happy. The way I look at it if I lose it slow than my body has a chance to
catch up and I will (I hope) have less hanging skin than if I lost it
faster. Like everyone says I am just happy that I am losing.
