Question:
Looking for peers
I need to find a support group in Huntsville, conroe, livingston, or the far northside of Houston, texas. I live in New Waverly, Texas and can drive in these directions. Are can anyone start a group and how do you go about it? Is there anyone in those areas that have had this done? — linda P. (posted on May 24, 2002)

Where did you have your surgery done? That would be the place to begin
with. Check with your surgeon to see if there a support group and what the
qualifications for starting one is if there isn't one. We have a guy in
our group who had so many friends that had their surgeries at a
differnt(place because BTC didn't accept their insurance) that didn't offer
a support group so he started one for anyone who has had WLS somewhere
other than BTC. These people still need support and I commend him for
doing this. He is still an active (and might I say a very important)
member of our group. He just found a place to hold the meetings and
started telling people about them. I refer people who can't come to our
meetings to his.

There is one that meets at CyFair hospital on the 3rd Sunday of every
month. If you are interested in that one, email me and I'll send you the
info.

I attended the one at Cyfair hospital but you should first see if the
hospital where you had your surgery has a support group. You may also see
if the CyFair Hospital has a sister hospital in you area with a similar
program. Good luck!
