Question:
Anyone 1 year post op-ers only lose 50-60 pounds and go on to lose to goal?
I am one year post and I have only lost 57 pounds. It really depresses me but I know that my health is so much better even with only losing the 57 pounds. Any of you lose slow in the first year and go on to lose more weight or is it over for me? I know that many of my medications contribute to my slow loss but it is still depressing. I have another 47 pounds to lose. any help or advice is greatly accepted. — Suzie J. (posted on May 15, 2002)

Hi there! I wish I had some answers for you but I don't. Right now I am
waiting for insurance approval so I haven't went through the experience of
losing weight yet. I too often wonder if I will do as well as some on this
site or better yet a friend/co-worker. I think...would I be a failure if I
don't lose 100 pounds? And the answer is no. Everyone's body is different.
I think it's safe to say that some lose all their extra weight & some
don't. I am sorry to hear that you haven't lost as much as you wanted but
you are down 57 pounds & I'm sure you look wonderful. Maybe you being
tired is from your depression. I am no doctor but I am familar with
depression. Maybe you should talk to your PCP doctor & maybe with
medication you will feel mentally better. I hope that you cont. to lose
weight & shape yourself into go health. I am looking forward to my
journey & I'll keep you in my thoughts. Good luck & email me if you
want to talk. Take care....

Well I have lost more, but I would like to say that there was a time just a
few months ago that I felt like I would never make it to goal. I still
might not, but I changed a few things and have started to lose again. Are
you drinking with your meals? If so, this washes the food down and allows
you to eat more. I was doing this out of years and years of habit. Once I
made myself stop, I dont eat as much at one sitting as I was. And some may
criticize me for it, but I started to take some herbal diet pills just on
those days that I was feeling really snacky. This surgery doesnt always
get rid of the head hunger. And I really increased my water and protein.
I cut out all sugar and most carbs and it reset my dumping. And I started
exercising more. It has worked for me. I thought with this surgery I
would never have to diet again, but I realized I needed to change my life
habits. I wish you the best of luck!!

I lost until my 16th month. By any chance do you have PCOD? If you do, you
could have a condition called Insulin resistance. It will cause even wls
people to stop losing weight. Some are given a drug called Glucophage and
it starts up again. This is just FYI. You might want to get it checked out.
Good Luck!
