Question:
Had my surgery 9.5 months ago, and have lost 91 pounds...
Hello everyone. I had my Lap RNY in June, 2001. To date I've lost 91 pounds. I can't seem to break that 100 pound mark. I also checked my BMI and was further discouraged to find that based on their chart, I should be 20-25 pounds lighter. For those of you who had surgery around my date, how are you doing? If you hit a plateau, how were you able to break it. Oh, I also found out that I'm able to eat sugar. I haven't indulged with my discovery too much. But am perplexed that my new anatomy would allow sugar to pass. I look forward to reading your thoughts. — ellton (posted on March 21, 2002)

Hi, I had open RNY in uly and went to the dietitian yesterday and she
infomred me in the past 2 months I have lost a grand total of 1 (one)
pound. At the 6 month mark I was disappointed that I hadn't hit that
"century" mark. So I started the gym 7 weeks ago and go there 4-5
times a week now, and NOTHING lost! I am not unhappy, but discouraged and
wonder if I will just sit here forever. If you get some good info pass it
to me please. Good luck,

I had surgery 10 months ago and let me tell ya, THE HONEYMOON IS OVER! It
is agonizingly slow now. I tend to gain/lose the same five pounds for weeks
and then finally drop a couple only to start the whole gain/lose thing
again. I don't indulge in anything with more than single digit sugar grams
because it makes me feel queasy. I DO tend to graze which I know is NOT
good and I also feel those old demons "stress eaters" coming back
to haunt me. I actually find myself thinking, "I wish I could just
stuff myself right now!" Thankfully, it doesn't take as much to stuff
me anymore. I am trying to up protein and water (still a challenge). It
could well be that it's just almost over for me. I am 27 pounds from the
insurance chart 'goal' weight for me and only 20 pounds from my personal
goal. I am in a size 12. I was a 12-13 in high school. Perhaps I'm asking
for a bit much here. I really need to just celebrate where I am and not
obsess too much over the numbers on the scale. Still, I really really
really wanted to wear those size 10s *sigh*

I had my openVBG a little more than 9 months ago
(06/11/01). I have lost 132 lbs - but I am now in that
plateauing phase - hovering around the same five or six
pounds for a couple of weeks and then dropping two or three - hovering
again, etc.....but - it is still working
and I feel GREAT!!!

Hi Tonya,
I had my surgery on 7/9/2001. I have lost a total of 107 pounds. For the
last month I go up and down and have to my surprise lost 5 pounds in the
last month.I think the closer you get to your goal the weight loss slowes
way down and you have to work alittle harder to get it off. I started at
289 and am now 182. I still have 32 pounds to meet my goal. I keep drinking
my water and eating right and have decided I am not going to get
discouraged. Keep in mind we still have a big window to work in. I did not
think I would ever hit the 100 pound mark, but I did and so will you. Keep
your chin up and remember to drink your water, I have found if I slack up
on water at all my weight loss seems to stop. Good luck and hope this
helps.

Hi Tonya:
I had surgery on 6/8/01 a few days after you. I started out at 237 with a
BMI of 41 and now have a BMI of 22 and weigh 130 and in a size 6. I lost a
majority of my weight in the first 6 months and have slowed down to a
snails pace. I think my body is happy at this weight. I just hope and
pray I can continue to maintain this weight....now the real challenge
begins! I'm looking into getting a tummy tuck this summer. I recently
heard that after being overweight for so long, the bones and tissue will
weigh more. Many years ago, I wore a size 5 when I weighed 110 pounds and
now I'm in a size 6 at 130 pounds. Fact or fiction...I'm not sure but
there must be some validity to it. Good Luck. Ciao, Victoria in Italy :)
