Question:
How long after open RNY is is safe to put creams on scar?
I have some sort of cream to put on my scar that will supposedly minimize the appearance long term. I have no idea if it will work or not, but how long do I have to wait? I am 5 weeks post-op and My scar is healed over. Thanks! — Pamela P. (posted on January 23, 2002)

I hear that using Neosporin really helps reduce the appearance of the scare
AND aids in healing.I understand you can begin using it right after
surgery. I am pre-op, but I intend to use it right away.

My dr. suggested Mederma, i used it @ 5 days post-op.
My scars are looking smaller.

I am 6 weeks post op, and started using shea butter om ny incision, and it
has started to shrink, and has healed over so nicely.

I am 5 weeks post op from an open RNY. I am using vitamin E oil on my scar
and the doctor said it was fine. He also said there is no clinical
evidence that it will help...but my mother said it would and it can't hurt!
It does make it less itchy, though.
