Question:
Has anyone lost hair 5 1/2 mo post op?
i'm going to get my hair colored tomorrow and i have not lost one strand of hair so far. should i worry about it at this stage in this process? i'm 5 1/2 mo post op open rny and take my vitamins religiously (still on 2 chewables a day). my hair and nails have grown like CRAZY since surgery, they are both thicker than ever! if anyone can help, let me know, my appointment is at 2:30, i'm kind of nervous to color it! — Andrea T. Get your hair colored... that wont make it fall out. The falling out of our
hair comes from within. The shock of surgery plus the huge weight loss
causes it. You are fortunate to have dodged this one... you are most
likely in the clear. I am 5 months and 1 week post op and I have had a lot
of hair in the drain for the past month. I also take my vitmins and am
totally into making sure I get my protein... so that really has nothing to
do with it.
Nothing topical can make you keep your hair either... shampoos and rinses
cannot change your bodies reaction to surgery and the stress of massive
weight loss. Coloring your hair will not make your hair fall out. I am
getting mine done tomorrow too.

I am 7 months post-op lap/rny and have been having my hair colored since
about 4 weeks. My hairdresser uses the same coloring she used pre-op
(double peroxide) and my hair has not been affected negatively by the
processing. I'm lucky to have not lost hair from surgery. If you are going
to lose hair it would be because of the shock to your body from the
surgery, not the hair coloring and at 5 1/2 months it probably would have
happened already. Go for it - you'll feel great!
