Question:
I am 3 wks post op and I made a mistake last night. We are only human
right? So I decided to post a question here about mistakes we have made and that we will never do again. I was sleeping last night and at about 5 am I woke up thirsty. I went into the kitchen to get a drink and spotted the apple bran muffin I had left over from breakfast. I took two bites of it and then quickly took a drink of cold milk! I don't know why I forgot the rules! I guess I was groggy. Anyway, my pouch quickly reminded me who was in charge. I felt terrible pain for a few minutes. I had to take pain meds to go back to sleep. Has anybody else made mistakes and regretted it immediately? I will never do that again! — Marilyn C. (posted on November 8, 2001)

The biggest mistake I ever made was to try and swallow a big pill without
cutting it up first. I thought I was literally going to die. It took
nearly an hour for the pain to pass. I'll never do that again!

Oh yes I have done that myself. The small pouch will remind you quickly, as
well as the pain. Don't beat yourself up about it. It is hard to break old
habits.

Oh yeah! About two months after my surgery, I went out to dinner
with some work friends. I did just fine with the meal. I had my
fish and my veggies. But I forgot about waiting 30 minutes to drink.
There was a glass of ice cold water
at my side...I was talking to my
friends....and just like in my pre-surg days....I drank half the glass
in one gulp. Big mistake! It came right up like a geyser!!!! Just like
old faithful!!!! A stream of water spewed all over the table!!! I was
shocked...then horrified....then I couldn't stop laughing. My friends
were simply horrified.........

I'm going to post this anonymously because I'm so ashamed of myself. But I
want to talk about it. Just last week they had a pot luck fund raiser thing
at work and one of the guys mother who is a caterer make a peach cobbler. I
was resisting all temptation until one of the girls at my table kept urging
me to try this peach cobbler. It was the best she's ever had she said. I
tried a bite about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. I automatically
knew my son would love it and thought I would sneak it into his lunch pail
as a surprise. So I washed out my little 1/4 cup serving dish and put some
in it to take home. Okay, I forgot to put it in his lunch so I saved it for
the next day. The next day when I woke up there was the empty container.
Spoon still sticking out of it. No peach cobbler in site. I thought, poor
thing he found it and ate it after I went to sleep. WRONG - I found it and
ate it after I went to sleep. I still don't have a real recolection of it,
but I asked me if he ate it, and he said No, but I'm going to. As if I
wasn't feeling guilty enough. I ate my babies peach cobbler and cheated on
my diet too. I didn't get sick from the sugar. But I am still sick from
knowing what I did during my sleep. Anyone else have problems with sleep
eating?

I did the same thing in the middle of the night. I was only 4 weeks along
and needed a pain pill to help with sleep. So I thought I better get
something on my tummy so the pain pill won't upset it. So I took two fork
fulls of spagettti(not thinking) and with in 1 minute later I though I was
gonna die. It felt like a 100 pound weight was droped on my chest and I
couldn't breath. I broke out in sweats and had to lay down right away. I
was horrible.

I made my mistake just last week. I made a dinner with some chicken and
veggies and it was wonderful. I invited my sister over who brought a loaf
of fresh baked french bread. I saw here dipping her warm bread in the
cheese sauce from the veggies, I immedeatly went to the other room. I
finished my dinner and went back to the kitchen to do the dishes. The
french bread was jumping up and down screaming "eat me" the
cheese sauce and veggies was screaming "dont waste me". I gave
in. I took a huge piece of the soft french bread and drowned it in the
cheese sauce, it tasted so good that I took 2 huge pieces and covered it in
the cheese sauce. I went back to living room and wasn't feeling to bad
until I sat down - OUCH! My mouth started watering and my chest was hurting
and what went down was on it's way back up. You get the picture. Anyway, I
felt bad but I guarantee one thing I will not ever make the mistake again.
I beat myself up for about 2 days and then decided that we will live and
learn. Beating yourself up will do no good. We have to learn from our
mistakes.

Since we are confessing... I am going to be spending Thanksgiving with my
husbands family so I wanted to make a turkey roll to see how I did with
turkey. Kind of a test run. Made lots of fat free gravy and it wasnt a
problem... very moist and good with the gravy. However, later on... I was
getting ready to go to bed and grabbed a chunk of cold turkey from the bag in the fridge and
gobbled it quickly. Within 10 minutes I was dying... and it started coming
up. The problem was it was not coming up fast... just a little at a time. I
was so sick all night long and my throat hurt the next day from all that
throwing up. What did I learn? No sneaking a quick COLD snack of cold turkey. Hot is fine but cold wont go down. Makes me sick thinking
about it. It is tough to break old habits... but now I know better!

I've been making booboo's all week. My kids Halloween candy is still
lurking around and I have been eating it. I was only eating a few pieces
of chocolate, and was fine, but tonight i sucked on a jolly rancher for
about 10 minutes, and I have never dumped so bad in my life. I swear I
thought I was going into a coma. I was sweating, heart was racing and I
could not move. I was like a slug on the couch. It was the worst thing I
have ever been though, well except labor LOL. Never ever ever am I going
to do that again!
