Question:
Has anyone had a G-tube placed during surgery, does the discomfort ever go away?
I had complications from my Lap RNY, A second operation was performed and a G-tube was inserted. I'm 2 weeks post-op and it is quite painful. Does it ever get better? — Michele F. (posted on October 2, 2001)

Yes, I had a gtube also for 8 weeks. It did hurt the first few weeks, but
it got better. I made a mistake in the beginning cleaning it every day
with betadine, which my physician did not tell me to do. This caused
burning and alot of pain. Once I stopped that and used neosporin with the
pain reliever in it, it immediately felt better. I used the neosporin for
a couple of days. After that I just cleaned the area with soap and water
while showering, and then covering with a dry sterile dressing daily. It
healed well and was not painful at all.
Also, just to put your mind at ease, removal of the gtube is very easily
done and not at all painful.
