Question:
Can anyone recommend a good source of Iron?
Or an Iron pill. My doctor says I have to get in 325 mg. of Iron a day. That sounds like a lot. My multi-vitamin only has 25 mg of Iron in it. — Vanessa J. (posted on February 22, 2001)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! I about had a stroke when my dr told me
how much I had to take. I'm sure (if your multivitamin is like mine) that
the box says it 100% or more of what you're supposed to need. Anyway, two
suggestions. There is a perscription iron you can get (if your doc will
write hte perscription that has 325 in one pill) or the kind I use has 65
per pill and I take 3 in the a.m. and the rest at night. It's ferrous
sulfate (sp?) I've seen it at Target and Wal-mart...I'm sure other store
have it as well. It comes in a box, and each pill is individually
wrapped...a real pain in the butt to get out.
Good Luck!

I was Iron defficent . When my doctor told me to take Iron I could have
thrown up on his shoes! It stinks and the aftertaste! So I posted here also
I was told Carbonyl Iron No smell no taste I bought some at my local Eckard
drug store under the name Feosol , and then I ordered Perfect Iron from
vitalady (michelle curran) I't is inexpensive and again no aftertaste. In
fact I take mine when I awaken to a Potty break in the middle of the night
, them I am sure my stomach is empty and swallow it with a mouthful of
orange juice , with regular Iron I'd be a gastric mess , but not with this
one. Good Luck

Don't panic. The 325mg your doc suggests is a generic reading on the front
of the iron. Don't get it confused with the elemental iron listed on the
back of the package. 325mg often translates to 25 or 28mg of elemental
iron. I only know of ONE OTC iron that is 150mg elemental iron, and I
kinda doubt if he really wanted that one. "325mg" is a common
labeling amount. Ferrous SULFATE is not absorbed by us, may cause pouch
distress & constipation, and will for sure block any vit E that you
might get, though it is also one of the elements we malabsorb. Iron needs
to be taken with vit C, alone for an hour with no other meds or minerals,
no milk or caffeine.

Vanessa...I have to take Iron myself. My first bloodwork came back low. My
second bloodwork came back PERFECT after taking these. I take SLOW FE..slow
release of Iron..High Potency..Make sure you take it with Vitamin C. The
Vitamin C absorbs some of the Iron. This is so you won't get a lot of the
side of effects of Iron..i.e..constipation and abdominal discomfort...Hope
this helps. I purchase this from Walgreens, Walmart, or any drug store. Not
that expensive either. I take two a day. Hope this helps.
