Question:
Anyone have WLS under 240 pounds?

What was your weight loss like? I realize that everyone is different, but I can't help wondering what the averages are for people my size (240 /5'4") in the coming weeks/months post-op. LOL, I keep myself awake some nights wondering how much weight one can potentially lose and will it be to much. If you could share with me your weight loss history, that would be great.    — corpdiva2006 (posted on January 27, 2001)

I was 5'0" @ 192 when I had my lap RNY 5 1/2 weeks ago. I weighed this morning and have lost 30lbs. But I noticed I seem to have more plateaus than the ones who have a lot more to lose. I go for 5 to 6 days at a time before I see a loss. Hope this helps. Good luck!

At the time of my surgery I weighed 230 and am 5'2". I have lost as of this morning 50lbs. I had several plateau's. A fun web sight to check on your weight and where you should be as far as weight loss is www.clos.net/predict-wt-loss.htm But there is no substitute for your doctor. If you are worried, call thier office. Good luck.

Hi..I weighed 212 at 5'1" on 'surgery day' October 12, 2000...I now weigh (as of yesterday) 152, so I have lost 60 pounds with 40 to go...I don't know exactly how many plateaus I have had...but, go check out my profile..I keep it updated pretty regularly *well, most of the time*...hehehe. I need to make a little timeline, I think. Anyway, you will do GREAT! I will be praying for you...much love, Terri

I weighed 220 at surgery and am 5'1". I had surgery October 26th, 2000 and have lost 48 pounds. Plateaus are an issue for me but when I don't see the pounds coming off I do see the inches coming off. I'm down from a 24/26 in pants to an 18/20 and a 22/24 shirt to a 14/16. It's been so worth it for me!! Good Luck to you!!

Thank you guys so much for sharing! I've read so many times of people losing like 90 pounds in the first 3 months etc. and being at 240, I thought that (although that would be a wonderful thing for me) at that rate I could easily go down to nothing in a year (that would not be so wonderful). I also recognized a pattern, the more weight a person starts off with, the more weight they shed the first few months post-op. Have you noticed that too?

Glad to see you post such a question! I am 4'11" and 190#. I don't mind not losing as quickly, once I have my surgery on March 8, because I expect to lose slower, due to my lesser height. I believe, that for the most part, we shorter persons do tend to lose more slowly.

My proximal Lap RNY was done 10/25/99. I started out at 5'3" and 235lbs. I now weigh 124lbs. I lost 110lbs in one year and seem to be stabilizing at this weight.

I had my open RNY April 18, 2000. I weighed 232 at 5'3". I now weigh 142. I have lost 90 pounds and 75.5 inches. I wear a size 9. Weight loss has really slowed. There is not much I can do as far as exercise. I have 2 big hernias so even walking very long hurts. Hoping to have hernia repair and tummy tuck late April.

Dear A, I had open RNY 1/13/00. I have lost 100 pounds to date. I am 5'4" and had a starting weight of 228.5. It took a year to reach my goal. I started in 22's and 24's. I wear 6's now. Yes, even us smaller ones can lose to goal. Lou Ann

Very good question. And it helped ME reading everyone elses posts too. I am 5 foot 4, and weighed 242 when I had my surgery. I had lap rny on Nov 17th, 2000, and another surgery Dec 19th 2000 to repair an internal hernia that had blocked my intestines. So I am 12 weeks post-op and have lost 52 pounds to date! (yippee) I dont really know what my weight goal IS, but I know I dont want to go any smaller than a 9/10 and think I would actually be happy just at a size 12. I am afraid sometimes that I will lose too much also...but, Im just gonna wait it out and see what happens. :)

I am 5'6" and weighed 208# day of surgery, 4-17-00. I was terminally ill at the time. I had several complications after surgery. On October 23,2000, I had a Hernia Repair, and a mini Tummy Tuck. My surgeon was afraid to take off too much skin. I now weigh between 125# and 130#. And I am NO LONGER terminally ill. The surgery gave me back my life. I have pictures on my profile, along with my story --

I am going to post a 2nd time because it has been a while. My surgery was on 1/15/01. I am 5' tall and weighed 236 pounds. I am now down to 179. The weight is coming off slower but the inches are still coming off. I just got into a 16 petite... woo hoo and I will give the pants away soon. Best of luck to you...I have NEVER regretted this, I am getting HEALTHY!!

I had surgery December 2000. I am 5'1" and weighed in at 227 the day of surgery. I have experienced very S-L-O-W loss. I have lost a total of 37 pounds. At weigh-in last month I had lost only 1 pound. I am not following any diet because my Dr. said it shouldn't be necessary. I am actually more active the last three months and maybe some of it is muscle but it does get discouraging at times. I am also 51 yrs. old. Maybe it's metabolism. Anyone who wants to write me with your story please do so.

When I went for my consult I weighed 226 lbs. However, the day of my surgery, after "many - last meals" I weighed in at 251lbs. That was 13 months ago. My first month I dropped 35 pounds and about 8 months later I was wearing size 6. I just had my tummy tuck 2 weeks today and my weight had dropped to 121, much to low, I was totally comfortable at 130. My height is 5'3". I am eating like "always" trying to get my weight back up to 130 pounds. I can honestly say I never thought I would see in my lifetime where I would say I "want" to gain weight!!My daughter's pants are size 3 and I can get them on! I am 44 years old and as far as I am concerned "too thin" at my weight currently, eating to get the scales to climb! Good Luck. Kim McKay
