Question:
I have several red areas along incision that hurt, what do I do?
There is no discharge and it isn't feverish, no smell. Nothing is hitting them to irritate. Does anyone have any idea what is causing them or what I can do to make them feel better before I call the doctor? Thanks. — dtjohnson7 (posted on December 17, 2000)

The first thing is how long has it been since you got your staples out??
If it's only been a little while you shouldn't worry to much especially if
there is no smell or discharge. You will be irritated in that area for
awhile, I was for a few months after surgery. I have very sensitive skin
and my skin kind of rejected the staples in my body so I had to have them
out before I was healed. I literally walked around for about a month with
an open gap. Just make sure you are watching it closely and that you look
for the signs of infection daily. If there aren't any signs I wouldn't
worry to much, those areas will be sore for awhile and the healing process
itself can irritate certain areas. If it's been awhile since you have had
your staples out and now all of a sudden it is irritated and red I would
call the doctor. good luck!!
