Question:
Has anyone had a huge preoperative hernia?
I have had 7 hernia operations and currently have a huge incisional hernia located 5 inches under my left breast. I regularly break through my repairs on the newest site or an older site within 30 days of surgery. What could a WL surgeon do about this and possible other hernia breakthroughs in the future? I have recently found out about a method of hernia repair called the Lichtenstein "tension free" method. There is a web page that explains it in detail. It is www.American-Hernia.com Would a surgeon consider doing this type of repair on me so that I don't have to have 9 or 10 hernia repairs? My family has a history of hernias. Thanks. — Mary S. Hi Mary, During a hernia surgery, The doctor usually uses a strong binding
mesh to prevent recurrent herniation. I would think they could use this if
they know your history. Hope this helps!

One thing in your favor will be losing weight. Once you have a lot of your
weight off, there will be much less pressure on the abdominal wall, and
that should decrease your risk of hernias. Good Luck!
