According to my ob/gyn, unless you have your ovaries removed when you have
the hysterectomy, you'll still go thru menopause. I know I did and had a
couple of years of dealing with the hot flashes and it is MISERABLE. I'd
talk with the doctor..........there are things that can help.

A complete hysterectomy is removal of everything. I had one done about 6
yrs ago. I remember getting flashes the day I had it done. It throws you
into menapause right away do to the sudden drop in estrogen. I am almost 2
yrs out from WLS and I found that my hot flashes have gotten a bit worse
since surgery. Are you taking any hormone replacements? I am on the
climara patch, I change it once a week. I dont' think the pills will help
that much because of the malabsorbtion. Have you talked with your GYN?
He/she may be able to advise you on how to deal with the flashes. I know I
hate them, feels like you are melting from the inside out. It may not have
anything to do with what you are eating or not eating. It just might be
the way your body is reacting. Talk to your Dr, it may be something you
will just have to put up with. Good luck to you. :-)

I have already been through the change. I had my surgery on 2/8/05 and a
couple of times when I ate too fast or too much, I got the hot flashes. I
think it is part of the dumping syndrome even if it's not bad enough to
throw up. Did the hot flashes go away in a short time? Loretta

I have been told that we store hormones in our fat. As we lose the fat,
the hormones are released. I am experiencing night sweats to an extreme
degree and am not menopausal nor had a hysterectomy. Those of us with all
our plumbing may experience horrific PMS due to the release of the
hormones. This could be what is causing your hot flashes too. Good
Luck!!!

I experience hot flashes that come and go stops for a few months then comes
back. I had a hysterectomy in 1988. I'm taking a natural supplement
called Black Cohosh that helps regulate menopausal sypmtons. It works well
for me. I only take it when the symptoms flare up and it takes about a
week for me to see a regular effect.

I also experienced this, found out for me, the cause was artifical
sweetners. I stopped using them and the hot flashes went away. The doctor
had been telling me it was menopause. Good Luck I hope you find some
answers.Nut

Wether or not you have had a hystorectomy or gone through menopause, you
store estrogen in your fat cells. With rapid weight loss, you are
releasing the estrogen at a very fast rate and it will cause mood swings
and hot flashes. It can also upset your sleep pattern sometimes.
