Question:
I am 11 months out and have an incisional hernia. My question is. The hernia has
become sore and has a black and blue mark over it. Is it common for an incisional hernia to bruise? should I be concerned ? I want surgery this year but Dr. at 9 months said to wait until I am 18 months out.. — Kathy S. (posted on September 7, 2004)

My wife is a RN and I just asked her, <P>REPORT TO THE ER
IMMEDIATELY! Your hernia may be strangulating, pain and black and blue call
for immediate medical attention!

Hi, I had an incisional hernia as well and just had mine fixed at 12
months....I did not have the tummy tuck done as my stomach isn't that
bad...I'll warn you tho, the recuperation is about as bad as the original
surgery was...but every day got better and now I'm back to normal...hernia
repair on 08/06/04.
Good luck on the bruising problem, hope it isn't what the first poster
thought it was for your sake!

BOB IS RIGHT--THIS IS VERY SERIOUS- I too had an incisional hernia (huge)
and had that repaired 7-23-04 with a TT. The hernia was very painful and
the surgeons were very concerned over it getting "trapped" which
would mean EMERGENCY SURGERY. If it gets trapped, the bowel or organ(s)
protruding through the ruptured muscle (that is essentially what a hernia
is by the way) can become NECROTIC (tissue/organ death) and it is
IMPERITIVE that this not happen. Very serious. Please get this checked at
the ER now. All the best

Please get your hernia checked as soon as possible. Hopefully it is just a
bruise from bumping your tummy against something. but if it's moew serious
then the sooner it is checked the better. Let us know what happens. I have
a hernia that will be repaired October 18th, 2 hernias actually. I have
pain from them daily but not constantly. It is too soon for a tummy tuck so
that will wait. The WLS surgeon wants to fix the hernias now and I sure
don't want to wait until next year. good luck.
