there are alot of videos that are chair workouts. you sit in a chair and to
your strenght trianing. you can look on amazon.com or you can see if your
local tv has something like this...maybe PBS or something. you could also
try water arobics! my mom has alot of knee and hip pain. she swears my
water arobic. most of the YMCA's have it(i have heard it cost alot) or you
could buy your own pool for about $300 at wal-mart and do it at your house
on your time, plus your family and friends could enjoy the pool too.

I second the recomendation for the water aerobics. I have a membership at
the Y and the classes are free with your membership. For me, it's 57.00
per month for my entire family. And the Y also offers help with
personalized training for YOU. That way they can help you with things that
wont hurt your knees.

Instead of walking long distances, walk more often for short distances,
Exercise is part of the way this works. Either that or take up swimming.

Good suggestions here on alternative exercises. Maybe you should try
writing down every bite that goes in your mouth and every ounce of fluid
you drink. If you are definitely on track with those two things, I'd see
my doctor and see if there's a mechanical problem.
