Question:
How do I get a WLS CARD for restaurants and such?
I see alot of people talking about a WLS CARD for going out to eat and other stuff, what is it and how can I get one? — wildchild (posted on August 10, 2003)

You can either have someone make you one, or several sites have them to
print, the places do not neccisarily honor them, it is up to them......:)

My surgeon gave us one. I have never used mine. Before I had weight loss
surgery they never charged me extra when i went to buffets and ate two and
three plate fulls, so why pay less now and the kids meals aren't fit to eat

Personally I like the 3 or 4 meals in 1 that I get now. I bring the
leftovers home and it's that many more meals I do not have to think about.
I have a card but don't use it for that reason. Mine came from my surgeon.

I got my card from my surgeon and I've used it several times. I really
don't enjoy eating out and I end up wasting so much food, so it's a
blessing to me. Last time I ate out at a popular buffett, I was charged
for an 8 year old ($3.00). Again, what a blessing and I'm sure I ate less
than an 8 year old would eat.

I have to agree that usually items on the kids meals are junk like hotdogs,
chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. I personally choose a full meal that
is healthy and eat enough, then take the rest home for leftovers for 2-3
more meals. Sometimes my husband and I will share a meal too if he is
willing to eat what I want.
Many places (at least by me) don't have a problem with me ording kid's
meals like Boston Market - and even that I eat in 2 meals and give the
drink and cornbread to my DH.
I don't dare go into a buffet or all you can eat place because my bad
habits will play mind games with me and I will want to eat it all. Of
course, a brand new one just opened by me. It was still under construction
when I was pre-op.
My surgeon gave me my card and I have extras, but it has BTC info all over
it including a toll free number to call if I end up in the ER.

I got mine from my dr's office staff and never had to use it as of yet. I
do agree that the kids menu is mostly junk and rarely order from it. I am
now 13 wks post-op and make several meals out of an adult meal. I rarely go
to buffets and when I do, I generally pick food from my DH's plate. He
totally supports me and is willing to pick what I tell him or he pretty
much knows what I can/can't eat. Also, now it's hard for me to fit all my
meals in, since I'm very rarely hungry now. I drink plenty of water but
protein is a problem for me. I am pretty much on a liquid diet and try not
to eat out that much now. I must add that of all the times when I was
ordering from the kids menu, I never needed the card. I do tell the
waiter/waitress that I had this surgery done, and they usually say that
they know of someone who had it done and understand.
