Question:
I have been in ketosis for two weeks now. Why haven't I lost any weight in a week??
If I am in ketosis, then my body is sheading fat for energy. Why has my weight stayed the same?? I don't think I am gaining muscle so I am totally confused. Any ideas how to get my weight loss starting again?? — S A. (posted on July 10, 2003)

You are losing weight. Your body just hasn't shown it on the scales yet. By
that, I mean that the fat you've lost is being replaced by water weight
temporarily. As your fat cells lose fat, they temporarily fill up with
water. Eventually that water weight will fall off, too, and it will be
dramatic--all at once, you may lose several pounds from one day to the
next. It happened to me many times while I was losing weight.
Also
be aware, that this the middle of July--the hottest time of the year. Your
body can become easily dehydrated and will hang on to every drop of fluid
it can--especially if you have eaten something salty recently. It's your
body's way of compensating for the high heat index to avoid overheating and
becoming more dehydrated. That is another reason it is so important to
increase your fluids this time of year. Instead of the usual 64 ounces, you
should shoot for 80 - 100 ounces if you spend any time outside or in
unairconditioned surroundings.
Hang in there, you will notice a
sudden drop in weight very soon. Also--check your measurements. If you're
burning fat, it will show on the measuring tape, too.
