Question:
Borferline or high TSH level and still been approved for surgery?
My insurance requested a letter from my PCP of medical clearance and my latest THS level. I have had hypothyroidism for 2 years now. My level came back borderline and I am wondering if this will pose a problem with getting approved?? — mahnke5 (posted on May 9, 2003)

Hi, I too have hypothyroidism, and did not have a problem with approval
and my TSH levels are still high. I have been taking Levoxyl for over a
year now, and just had to have it increased to 100 mcg. I was told by one
Surgeon that as long as you are being treated and your numbers are not off
the chart. You should have no problem.

Hi! I've had hypothryoidism since I was 8, and my levels fluctuate madly.
When I first went to see my surgon, my TSH was at 17. When I had the
surgury it was down to 9. I had absoluty no problem getting approved, and
as long as I was on my thyroid meds, the doc didn't have a problem doing
it. Good luck!
