Question:
Want to hear from 5'4
Today I'm 2 months out from RNY surgery, which was very proximal (just 80 cm bypassed). I started at 222 pounds and today am 28 pounds lighter, at 194 pounds (on my scale). I'm down from a 2x to a large on top, and from a 24 to an 18 on bottom. I feel really good about it, even though the weight loss may seem small to some. I realize that I am about 1/3 of the way to my goal, so I'm happy about where I am. (I'm pretty big boned, so my doctor's goal for me is between 137 and 151 pounds; I'd like to get to between 130 and 140). <br> I'm interested in whether other "lightweights" who had lost "small amounts" at 2 months have made it to their goals. Is my goal realistic? — Beth S. (posted on March 15, 2003)

i started at 256, 5-4 lost slowly but consistantly. had lost 70 lbs by 6
months. now one year out i have lost 90 lbs. it will come off. i would lose
2-4 lbs then stop for a few days. then 2-4 more then stop. the first two
weeks i lost a pound a day. but then it went to this start and stop thing
but it was always consistant. i am just now starting to exercise. i wish i
would have done this sooner. good luck. you will be fine.patsy in las vegas

I, too, had lost 28 pounds 2 months post-op. I'm 5'4" and weighed 237
pounds. Currently, at almost 11 months out, I'm at 136 and 6 pounds from
my goal of 130. The snails pace of the scale was driving me nuts so I
tossed it and no longer went by the numbers, but on how I felt and the
clothes I could wear so I only weigh about once a month, if even that. It
kept me less stressed and not so frustrated. I've realized that although I
lose the pounds slowly, the inches keep coming off as I am now wearing a
size 4 down from 22/24W. Don't worry about it so much because the weight
will come off. Hang in there; you will make it to goal. E-mail me if you
would like to chat more.

I am not exactly the same as you, but started at 5'3' and 236. At 4
months, I am down 52 lbs, having lost the last 4 lbs of that over the last
4 weeks! I was into a size 14. Yesterday, I decided I needed another pair
of size 14 jeans, and for kicks, tried on a 12 to see if I could wedge into
them yet! They fit! So don't be discouraged by the scale. It will come.
Unlike others who throw the scale away, I weigh everyday and graph my
weight. While it may look like I'm not losing anything, I actually average
about a pound over each of the last four weeks, and I also had a time when
I went 14 days at the same weight, then dropped 7 lbs. over 5 days. I
think your goal is realistic.

I lost 27lbs the 1st month than 3 the following 6 weeks I too am
frustrated. I feel at this rate I may never reach my goal. I 5'4 and
started 157 now 122. I should be happy but thought i was going to be one
that lost 60 lbs in two months. not! people say i look great. I feel great.
I exercise 4-5 days a week. and eat 1/3-1/2 a cup of food per meal. reading
all your answers and questions made me feel better. Im concerned I eat too
much. I wish you the best and I feel better knowing Im not the only one and
its more normal.

Thanks to all of you for your answers. Joan, I wish you the best of luck.
My surgeon says that sometimes there will be a period of time where you
lose very little, and then suddenly the pounds come off quickly again. I
hope that is the case for both of us! Beth
