Question:
How do Real Meals really taste?
I am a little bummed! At 9.5 weeks out from Open RNY I have only lost 40 lbs. I know all the light weight stuff and everybody loses different but I need more protein. Does this stuff tast delicious like the site says? Thanks! — Kristi T. (posted on December 10, 2002)

I use it now and find that it taste better then other protein drinks. I use
the chocolate. It taste like a sweet chocolate milk to me. The best part is
that it all mixes when you shake it. Some of the others clump (nasty). You
can order just one pack to try first. God Bless.

I find that it's too sweet so I've been staying away from it. I prefer the
Isopure Dutch chocolate which I blend with water, ice, 2 equals and half a
banana. That combination works much better for me.

They are tolerable...a very weak chocolate taste which I add Sugar Free
Nesquick to. Sometimes they shake up well, sometimes they clump. I like
them since you only need to add 4-6 ounces of water, so its not a lot to
get down for the amount of nutrition you get. I have tried many different
shakes, and they all have good and bad points, I would say these do rate
better than most. It is a thin shake, which is easy for me to get down
then some of the very thick ones.

I tried the chocolate, and I didn't like it at all. I leaves a bad
aftertaste in your mouth and it is extremely sweet.

I like it, I have been taking it for months. And I like the fact that it
has everything I need in one place, not just the protein. I don't have to
do the sublingual b12, or extra calcium or anything because it has
everything in it. And it is 100% absorbed by post ops. Not all protein
drinks are. I saw in the product reviews section a lot of people saying
that they like it. A lot of people from my support group take it. The
early post ops sometimes say it is too sweet. But I remember that I didn't
like a lot of things in the beginning that I like now.

I like the chocolate. But even if I didn't I would still take it. It has
really made a difference in the way I feel.

I just started using it and would say that the taste is pretty tolerable.
I wouldn't go so far as saying that it's yummy or anything, but it's not
that bad. I have used the chocolate which isn't that chocolate (and as the
previous poster put, I've added no sugar added Nesquik in the past to
enhance it), but again it's a protein shake and tastes a little like one.
I wouldn't go so far as saying it's like a chocolate shake--at least not to
me, but it is okay. The thing I like about it is... the volume of protein
grams it gives; (and therefore) the fact that it keeps me full for a good
while (most of the morning on 1/2 a packet); it's not thick like a lot of
other protein shakes; it's chocked-full of amazing vitamins and biotin;
it's convenient and the taste ain't so bad.
I hope this helps. I just started a week or so ago and anticipate making
it a part of my everyday regime for a very long time. Also, I do think
it's helped jumpstart my weightloss.........I was on a giant plateau and
now the weight is coming off pretty rapidly (of course that might have
happened anyway without the RM...).

Hi Kristi,
Go to GNC and buy one Adkins premixed protein drink. I think chocolate was
best, & just give it one try. Of all I tasted and drank, this was by
far the best one. This drink was not only good tasting and 20 grams of
protein, but is very filling, very low carbs and NO sugar.
Please let me know after you taste one.
PS I don't work for Adkins, just thank god I found there premixed drink.

I have been using Real Meals since I was a couple of weeks post op. I like
the chocolate it tastes like a thin chocolate milkshake. But more
importantly it has everything that we need. I was a lightweight too, I
started out with a BMI of exactly 40. This has the 60 grams of protein
which will prevent your body from going into starvation mode which is what
causes plateaus. It has lean muscle stimulators to help prevent the
sagging skin and to increase your metabolic basil rate (the rate at which
you burn fat) a special combination of biotin and nutrients to prevent hair
loss. Plus over 40 other vitamins and nutrients, including the main ones
for us the vitamin b12, calcium, and iron. Real Meals is also 100% whey
protein with the whey peptides. Which means that it will be absorbed 100%
immediately. So many people think that any protein drink will be absorbed
the same, it won't. Your body needs to create peptides that kind of
"marry" with the protein to break it down to be absorbed. Our
bodies does not allow enough time to fully do that now. So if you have the
combination of the two it is best. Read my profile. It has really worked
for me. My doctor says that I am off the charts in weight loss. I hit
goal in 5 months. I am now 7 months down 109 pounds, no sagging skin, and
no hair loss.

Greetings! I recently purchased the REAL MEALs. I tried the chocolate mix
and found it to be very clumpy, griddy and sweet. To help mixing it up I'm
going to use my blender next time and add a little more water to possibly
dilute the sweetness. (I don't like real sweet things). I am hoping it
helps as they are very nutritional. I do drink the Carb Solutions which I
purchase at Walmart. They taste pretty good and reasonably priced, just
drink them COLD! Its a matter of preference, but I'd suggest keeping to
"sample" size til you find one you like. Good luck!!
S.k. (13 1/2 mo's post-op down 152 lbs-passed my first goal, decided to
loose another 10 lbs).

I am not quite 3 months out and have recently in the last 1 month been
taking REal Meals 1 x day... I ordered the Vanilla because I thought the
Chocolate was too sweet... and besides you can add flavors to the
Vanilla... my absolute favorite is 1/2 packet of Real Meals(30 gms
protein), 6 oz of water, 3 ice cubes, 4 frozen strawberries, and 1/2
banana...I put all in my blender and make a thick shake......ummmmm very
good... tastes just like a banana split used to taste like!!!!!!! I think
of it as a treat!!! I am going to try peach tonite... can't wait!!!

I would not call the real meals delicious, but they taste better than any
other protien drink I have tried. I put a few ice cubes in the blender
with 4oz. of skim milk and 1/2 a packet of real meals. Sometimes I add
banana or strawberries to it. It is a great way for me to get in my
protein and vitamins, especially when I am in a rush.
