Question:
Can anyone recommend a good daily vitamin
that is easy on the pouch post op? I have heard Flinstones vits from a lot of people. Are these strong enough for adults? Thanks in advance!! — J. W. (posted on October 11, 2002)

I take bugs bunny complete with no problems. They were recommended at the
Bariatric hospital.

My surgeon and nutritionist recommend Materna, a pregnancy vitamin. It's
very complete, and has folic acid, which a lot of the others do not. The
drawback is that it's a bit of a horse pill, I'm quite used to it now, and
in fact take it with a bunch of other vites and meds, in a big handful.

I took 2 Bugs Bunny chewables a day for the first 6-8 weeks after surgery.
I then switched to a good multi-vitamin similar to Centrum (i.e. *horse
pill*) and have to cut it in half. I actually don't buy the expensive
Centrum, but compared the ingredients and found them to be the same in the
generic store brand. I switched to the *horse pill* because in comparing
ingredients, the chewables had a whole lot less than the big multivitamin.

Centrum also makes a children's chewable. Instead of Flintstones or Bugs
Bunny, they're "Rugrats." I think they taste better than
Flintstones.

Yes, the flinstone complete are strong enough for adults. They actually
exceed my surgeons requirements (surprised him too). Just to be safe, I
take 2 a day though because of the absorption issue.

Hi.. I take a vitamin called ADEK, it's a chewable fat soluable vitamin
recommended by my surgeon. They are a bit pricey, but I just had my first
blood work since surgery and my levels are A-Okey dokie! Most stores don't
stock them, but your pharmacy should be able to get them for you.
Good luck with your hunt! ~Peace

There is a multivitamin & mineral supplement designed specifically for
Gastric Bypass Surgery patients. It's called VistaVitamins. A little
pricey... but the autodelivery is very convenient. Check it out at

I tried several different vitamins including the flintstones chewables...my
bathroom cabinet looks like a pharmacy. I finally found Liguid Centrum you
can get it a Walmart, Eckerds...etc... They are wonderful and do not have a
nasty after taste.
