Question:
WHEN IS IT TIME
I am over 3 weeks post op and still doing the puree foods. Is it 4 or 6 weeks when I can begin my solids. I am doing well on the puree and so far no vomiting. My recovery is so slow and painful but I am hanging in there. Thank you all and God Bless — Donna O. (posted on August 30, 2002)

You should follow the instructions given by your surgeon and/or his
nutritionist. The guidelines given by mine were weeks 1&2-liquids;
weeks 3&4-pureed foods; weeks 5&6-soft foods; weeks 7+-regular
foods (add slowly as tolerated). But you should check with your surgeon to
make sure that this is what he wants you to do.

EVERY doctor seems to have a different idea on this. I had surgery (open
RNY) on a Thursday, and was eating oatmeal (out of a 1 ounce medicine cup)
on Sunday morning in the hospital. By the following Friday (8 days
post-op), the doctor said I could try scrambled eggs and well-chewed tuna.

I am now 10 weeks post-op, down 47 pounds, and have never had a problem
with anything other than milk.

Isn't it wonderful how unique we each are?
