Question:
I am 5 weeks post-op and think I am on the
beginning of a plateau. When is the earliest we shoul experience a plateau? thanks — Cheryl_J (posted on June 4, 2002)

Cheryl - I am not sure how much you have lost so far, but don't think of it
as a "plateau" as of yet. Think of it as your body is finally
catching up with the weight it has lost during this past 5 weeks. If you
are faithful in getting all the correct supplements in, water, and
exercise, and being careful in what you eat, this'll pass rather quickly.
When I was 5 months out I hit my first "plateau". How I
conquered it was I went back on clear liquids and was able to drop the
weight and it has been coming off at a rate of about 10 lbs per month. (9
months post op - 08/28/01 distal RNY -90 lbs)

I had my first plateau at 3 weeks and I have plateaued every few weeks.
Thats just the way my body works. I've lost 100lbs in 7 months so I'm not
complaining. Don't get discouraged, it will come off. Up your water,
protien and start some exercise if you can. It helps!

I am just 3 weeks post-op. Lost 21 lbs in the 1st 2 weeks and nothing this
past week. I think your body is trying to adjust.

I was on a plateau for almost ALL of weeks 3 and 4! I was fortunate enough
to have lost 39 lbs the first 2 weeks so I was totally expecting the
plateau to happen. Last week the scale started to move again and now I am
down 44.5 lbs and I will be 6-weeks post-op tomorrow. Don't Fret! :-)

you can plateau at anytime, it happened to me. I was eating too many
calories. Look at what your eating, and see if you could eat a bit more fat
free and sugar free.

Iam so glad to read that Iam not the only one who is suffering from this. I
have lost 34 lbs and Monday it will be 5 weeks and the past few days I
havent lost anything. I am increasing my protein, but was told by my family
doctor I can start trying new things to eat but its scares me cause I dont
want to gain anything. I havent had any trouble with eating I just chew
chew chew and its seems to settle good. I will keep checking on this and
letting everyone know how I am coming.
