Question:
At what point is a person past having stricture problems?
I am 5 weeks post-op and have been reading alot about people lately with stricture issues and having to have the scope to fix it. At what point post-op are we "safe" from the stricture problem? — Kathy J. (posted on March 3, 2002)

4-6 weeks post-op. I got mine at 6 weeks. Quick and painless fix to your
misery by endoscopic dilation.

It seems that most people are "out of the woods" with
this by eight weeks, but there are people in our support group who have
developed strictures at a year post-op. Sorry, but I'm not sure we're EVER
totally free from risk from this problem. With that in mind, there's no
point in panicking. Just make sure that you bring any excessive vomiting to
your surgeon's attention quickly so that they can address the issue before
you have problems with burned esophagus tissue, etc.

I dont think we are ever risk free from developing a narrowed stoma.. I had
a stricture at 3 weeks post op , first revision and again at 4 months post
op.. I had a partial bowel stenosis or stricture at 10 months post op.. so
strictures can happen ... at any stage.. The percentage of this occurring
may lessen the farther out you are.. I really dont know..
