Question:
Anyone ever get that ill feeling just thinking about certain foods?
Say for instance, you are driving past a Kentucky Fried Chicken, and you think to yourself "Man, I would LOVE to have a chicken breast" and then that feeling comes over you like you are going to be sick down in the pit of your stomach (your new one!) just from envisioning it? It happens to me all the time. Just curious if this happens to anyone else. — blank first name B. (posted on February 5, 2002)

Happens to me too. It really happened alot when I was early post op. I am a
little over six months now. The one thing that I loved was Dunkin Donuts,
and now even the thought of a cream filled donut get me sick. This is a
good thing! lol

Yes! Me too! Anything fried, really sweet...nauseating. My son just had a
birthday, and we have had left-over cake with the whipped frosting (used to
love) and everytime I serve a piece to my kids I envision eating a piece
and become nauseated. Just the thought is enough. I tried some fried okra
(another fav) and ended up having to peel the breading off. Isn't it funny
HOW MUCH our tastes have changed?? I love it!!

Yes! Things that are too sweet and gooey, pies, fried foods, stuff like
that. Especially really greasy stuff like fried fish from Long John Silver
or Captain D's. I used to LOVE that stuff and now the thought of it makes
me want to hurl! I can often look at something and tell whether I'll be
able to eat it or not.

When I first got home from the hospital the smell of normal every day foods
make me sick to my stomach. Our church members were cooking meals for my
husband and children and bringing them to us every night. I would have to
go into the bedroom and shut the door to get away from the smells. I also
thought everybody's breath smelled terrible!! HA! HA! I was constantly
trying to get them to brush their teeth over and over! My family finally
got where they wouldn't come in the room with me because I'd gag and yell
for them to go brush their teeth! Everybody had some really shiny clean
teeth for several weeks there! The smell disorder went away after about
10-14 days and nothing bothers me now except the smell of cooked cabbage in
the hospital cafeteria where I work,..but that has ALWAYS made me sick!!!!

You sound like a newly post op. I had this kind of trouble for the first
8-9 weeks, and still do occasionly (at 9 months post op). It's not fun, but
it will pass. :)

I had this happen to me at the Grocery store. the smell of foods was
overpowering. I had just eaten, and the smell of food made me feel so sick.
I had to go wait in the car while my wife finished our grocery shopping. I
have had a little bit of problemes here and there with a sick feeling when
I am full, and smell food cooking. It is happening less, and less now that
I am Postop 7 weeks.

It's the smell of fish. I get sick at the thought of eating fish. I've
even tried it twice after surgery and each time ended with me throwing up
horribly. I loved fish before. I even have to be careful with tuna.
