Question:
Has anyone had mood swings pre-op?

I am scheduled for lap RNY in three weeks and I am beginning to have some pretty erratic mood swings. I laugh, cry and get angry it seems over nothing. Is this normal?    — Christie S. (posted on December 23, 2001)

I am almost three weeks til I have surgery...all I can say is I have been very moody! I go from crying to being mad at the world....people at work are about ready to kill me...I am very nervous and excited at the same time if that can happen! :) I just think this is normal!

I am 14 months out, but I remember having EXTREME highs and lows in the months before my surgery. My family, friends, and co-workers were about ready to throw the towel in on me!! The decision itself to have surgery was one that took alot out of me emotionally, and then sticking to that decision was even worse!! It is completely normal. AND Despite some very recent complications (read my profile) I still do not regret my surgery for one second. You will get past this to lead a much happier life. Good luck

For the past 10 years, mood swings were just a part of life for me. When I was preop, I would be scared and upset one minute, very short tempered; and excited \'all is well with the world\' the next. Now, Im 2 weeks postop and I have to say, I still experience some moodiness but I think it mainly has to do with being tired and also under pressure to do all of the last minute holiday prep. I\'m anticipating that when I really feel a significant weight loss, get my energy back and can freely move without any discomfort, I\'ll have a much brighter outlook. Good Luck!

yes, it\'s very normal. My mood swings were so bad my pcp started me on paxil and took me out of work. I work in a nursing home so it isn\'t too good to get angry over the little things. There were times I was laughing while i was crying.....lol. I think some of it was i was in mourning for the food. I knew to be successful with this surgery I wasn\'t going to be able to eat at anytime day or night and that I was going to have to find new ways to deal with my feelings instead of eating. Hope you feel better soon and the mood swings went away as soon as i had surgery. Take care debbie

I am so glad you brought this up. Just at the perfect time for me. I don\'t know what the answer is, but I\'m curious to see the responses. I, too, have been very moody. 4 months out and I almost can\'t live with myself anymore. I thought it was the holidays but now I can see this just may last alittle longer than that. All I do is bitch, bitch, bitch. I tell myself to shut up, and then something else pops out of my mouth. Its like I can\'t stop myself. I am feeling out of control of my emotions. Hope someone has an answer- I can\'t up my dose of wellebutrin. I\'m already on enough.
